2) The SKS that Routh had is NOT an assault weapon:
No pistol grip
No select fire
No telescoping stock
No flash suppressor or threaded barrel etc.
And 3) Another inside job?
It’s also not an AK-47...............
Will this be the first ever actual 922r case brought to trial? (regarding the inflammatory wording chosen, 922r’s wording is “adaptable for sporting purposes” but trying to write THAT for consumer reading requires several paragraphs.
Heck, there are whole SITES dedicated to explaining this cryptic law and counting the bits and pieces necessary to make an SKS compliant.
Maybe he tossed in a TAPCO part just to make sure, before he committed a ton of felonies on top of the gun felonies he’d somehow escaped in past, he wouldn’t be “non-compliant.” Ha.
For a guy making a living out of being a handyman and roofer, he seems to have had access to considerable resources.
Fingerprints. So, no viable shoot ‘n’ scoot.
But it is a SOVIET design! Those Russians are at it again!
The Gun Grabbers have yet again moved the goalposts and now consider any semi-auto chambered in any Military or LE round with an external magazine to be an "assault weapon".
Trump’s game would have taken him well within the effective range of a scoped SKS. It doesn’t have to be a sniper rifle to be good enough for the job. Still, weapons selection by the two (or three) would-be assassins is definitely on the amateur side. When someone who does know better tries this and the Secret Service is as remiss as it’s been, look out.
You would think Trump rated at least an Accuracy International precision rifle.
I'd be embarrassed to get smoked by that POS rifle - and so should the Secret Service.
For 3.2 billion a year, I expect more.
The rifle could have come from Ukraine or some other shithole.
Hardly an AK47. In fact, the most obvious question not answered if it was originally described as an AK47 was whether it was an automatic, since a true AK47 has that capability. The gun pictured in the Post story doesn’t seem to be anything but semi-automatic. The media sucks and everyone in the police and presidential protection group do as well if they told anyone that thing was a real AK47.
What is an assault rifle?
These jerks will claim any long gun is an assault weapon, especially if “decorated” like one.
Not much different from a Remington Model 8 made in 1905. That is 119 years ago.
Semi auto rifles were never a problem till the news media began to hype them as “bad” in 1985.
Rem Model 8...

Hillary has an alibi OK? Just putting that out there.
Interesting scope mount. Never seen one like it. Looks like it is made out of some heavy duty zip ties. Probably won’t hold zero worth a darn.
Fixed, 10 round magazine. But the SKS is NOT a sniper’s weapon of choice. The ballistics of the round are awful and steel case ammo is not consistent.
Why did it take over a week to tell the truth? They originally said it was an AK-47.
Oh, they even put out a photos.
Must want something banned. /s
