Girls' field hockey team forfeits match because opposing school has male student on roster

A high school girls' field hockey team has forfeited a match to avoid playing against a male student on the opposing school's squad.

Bill Runey, the superintendent of schools at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional high school in Massachusetts, revealed the coaches and captains of the team had made the decision in an effort to keep players safe.

The school implemented a policy in June 2024 which 'allows players and/or coaches to opt out of competitions... against an opposing team because that team includes members of the opposite sex.'...

According to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, boys are entitled to join female sporting teams if there are no male teams of the same sport to join.

All the gains from Title IX are basically being flushed by Democrats. When will women rise up?

Boys have been playing field hockey in MA since the 70’s. This is not a “trans” thing—at least it hasn’t been in the past.

I am not defending it, and I always thought guys playing in dresses was silly. But it is not something “new”.

I understand your point. I wonder why schools wouldn’t use last year’s injury to a female player as motivation to start a boy’s field hockey team since, as you indicate, it does seem to be a popular activity with boys?

According to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, boys are entitled to join female sporting teams if there are no male teams of the same sport to join.
This is actually not allowed under Title IX. Wonder why state allows it especially if they get fed money

FAQ: Our school offers volleyball for girls, but not for boys. Does Title IX require that we allow boys to play on the girls team?

Answer: No. Although there have been a few, isolated lawsuits where boys have obtained injunctions to allow them to participate on a girls team for which their schools offered no same-sport equivalent for boys, the courts generally rule that the purpose of Title IX is to remedy past inequities of athletics opportunity for the historically under-represented gender – females – and that if boys are allowed to participate on girls teams, they will because of height, weight and strength advantages come to dominate the membership of those teams, and thereby decrease the competitive opportunities for women. Therefore, in the vast majority of cases, the courts have not permitted boys to play on girls teams, even if there is not a same-sport boys team.

I applaud them! If every girl team did the same, this insanity would end in a microsecond!

Interestingly, this policy goes back 40+ years in some states. This isn’t a “transgender” dude pretending to be a girl. He’s a regular guy who just wants to play field hockey … and many states have laws that allow boys and girls to play on high school teams with the opposite sex it the school doesn’t have a sports team for their own sex. Schools would probably run afoul of federal civil rights law if the DIDN’T allow this.

Correct. Field Hockey is a funny one because it is one of the few girls sports that doesn't have a boys' team in many schools. But I remember over 30 years ago a couple of guys yucking it up on the girls' team because they still had to wear the standard plaid skirts.

It's nice to see that someone bothered to read the article before commenting on it.

If men are so self righteously indignant about boys playing on a girls' team, then maybe they should take some of that money they have to spend on the NFL and MLB and spend it on forming teams for the boys instead.

That’s right. The MSM tells us that 30% of the youth identify as non-male or non-female so their as many of the gender-challenged as their are actual boys or girls. Simple math.

A league of their own. This league should require nude showering with the coaches and any adults that want to come kleen.

This short statement right here exposes Title IX and the court system that enforces it as complete frauds.

On the one hand the statement says that Title IX is intended to be a remedy for “past inequities of athletics opportunities” for women. And yet within the same sentence it openly acknowledges that these “inequities of opportunities” were never a matter of justice. Instead, women didn’t have the same “opportunities” in athletics as men did because they simply weren’t good enough to compete with men.

Thanks. I’m not sure I understand your last statement, though. Why should any man who doesn’t want to see boys compete on a girls sports team feel obligated to spend money to form a boys team in a sport that doesn’t interest them?

"I can’t figure out why a high school boy would want to be the only male on a girl’s team. He was a seemingly masculine boy."

With a standard high school volleyball roster consisting of 12-14 players, I can think of 11-13 reasons why a red blooded masculine boy would want to be on the team.
