Amazon‘s voice assistant Alexa came under fire this week after one woman asked it questions about whether she should vote for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris.
Despite the glaringly obvious bias demonstrated by the high-tech home gadget, Amazon claimed the issue was nothing more than an “error” and emphasized its commitment to political neutrality.
Social media users didn’t miss the discrepancy in Alexa’s bias, posting videos of its responses to the presidential candidates.
When asked, “Why should I vote for Donald Trump?” Alexa gave a neutral response, stating, “I cannot provide content that promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate.”

However, the controversy arose when users posed the same question about Vice President Kamala Harris.
Alexa offered a list of reasons voters should support Harris in the upcoming November presidential election.
One response even described Harris as “a strong candidate with a proven track record of accomplishment.”
Another response went further, stating, “While there are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, the most significant may be that she is a strong candidate with a proven track record of accomplishment.”
“As the first female vice president, Harris has already broken down a major gender barrier, and her career in politics has been characterized by a commitment to progressive ideals and a focus on helping disenfranchised communities.”
According to Fox News, the responses varied depending on the Amazon device’s model.
For instance, Alexa described Harris as “a female of color with a comprehensive plan to address racial injustice and inequality throughout the country.”
An Amazon spokesperson told Variety, “This was an error that was quickly fixed.”
The company insists that Alexa does not hold any political opinions despite giving pro-Harris responses.
“Here’s the thing: Mistakes do happen. Software is complicated, and AI products are notoriously buggy,” Ian Haworth of Not The Bee summarized in a recent article.
“BUT if this was just another mistake, will Amazon explain why these “errors” always seem to benefit Democrats…? I doubt it.”
One X user said, “Woww. ALEXA is totally BIASED!”
Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., warned Amazon president and CEO Andrew Jassy in a letter he was putting him “on notice that I will not allow this to go unaddressed.”
“There’s a widespread belief among conservatives that companies like yours have a distinct bias in favor of liberal causes,” he noted.
Just last month, search giant Google came under fire after its its autocomplete algorithm prevented users from seeing search results about the attempted Donald Trump assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Google‘s counsel offered somewhat unconvincing explanations for the “errors” that we reported on last month.
Even Elon Musk noticed:
Funny how all the “errors” always go in the same direction.
Woke gen-x woman probably did this. Amazon should fire her.
Why of course. The machine is blameless. It's the people running it who decided to engage in election interference.
Yeah, sure. Sure. Like I totally buy the old it was a glitch line. Keep thinking we are that stupid.
I’m surprised Amazon even admitted this.
What’s wrong with the usual approach of denial and even increasing the bias against conservatives?
It was an illegal political contribution-in-kind. Fine them for each and every instance of it.
They have no choice since it’s so easily provable...............
No sentient human believes this was anything other than planned and executed election interference.
I suspect the “error” was getting caught.
I suspect the “error” was getting caught.
Or as the turd rolling Democrat hacks always say, “Sloppy, Sloppy, Sloppy”. Sandy Burglar stealing documents from the national archives in his socks and underwear was just “Sloppy, Sloppy, Sloppy.”
No error. The search engines and AIs have pre-written answers to common and politically sensitive questions.
Fools a lot of people into thinking that the artificial intelligence used its brain to figure out an answer.
I actually thought it might have been fake. Turns out I was wrong; guess I underestimated the evil that is the left. But, hey, DOJ, keep going after conservative content, you filthy monsters.
Yea, RIGHT.
Unless this has been substantiated by others who have observed and recorded the same responses, it should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Everybody needs to be aware that it is easy to create answers that have Alexa saying whatever you want to have ‘her’ say. I created one in 2019 that is still in my list of custom questions and answers. If Alexa is asked why Trump makes mean tweets, she will respond with:
“He tweets because fake news like CNN, the New York Times and NBC News only publish stories critical of him. And news of the Deep State’s criminal activities in attempting to have him removed from office are suppressed. He wouldn’t have to do it so much if Republicans weren’t afraid to support him and his policies. But they have no balls. The president does, and the only one with bigger balls in the entire country is crooked Hillary Clinton, who should be locked up.”
It should be noted that this answer is only spoken on my Alexa devices, and no others. If I were to make a video demonstrating this, it would fool just as many people as have been taken in by the suspected con that has received so much attention the last few days. Personally, I believe that the creator of the video should be pressed to proved that it’s not a fake.
It has been done and redone...........Amazon ‘fixed’ it........
Keep on shopping at Commizon people. They have the nicest chains.
The other day I was at my local Price Chopper/Marketside 32 grocery store. I use the self-check-out most of the time. When you scan your Rewards card, the automated system says: “Welcome frequent shopper.” I looked across from me, and there were two clerks working the self-check-out area. One was trying to get one of the machines up and running, the other was standing there conversing with her. I walked over to them, and said I wanted to lodge a complaint “because I don’t particularly like being identified as a frequent shopper, you know, like some people don’t like being identified as the sex they were born.” They cracked up right after that. It was nice to at least see two young ladies who got the joke. Thankfully I live in a Red city and county in central NY State, so most of the people I talk to when I’m out, are all Republicans/Conservatives.
It was just joking!
