Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who served in Congress for nearly three decades, has died at the age of 74, her family announced Friday evening.
“Today, with incredible grief for our loss yet deep gratitude for the life she shared with us, we announce the passing of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18th Congressional District of Texas,” her family wrote in a statement shared to her account on X.
Her family did not specify a cause of death, but the news comes just over one month after the Congresswoman revealed that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Yeah. My neighbor has it.
Enemy combatant- people die every day.
Yup...after receiving the diagnosis meet immediately with:
1) your minister, Priest, or Rabbi;
2) your lawyer
3) your Funeral Director.
I didn’t know she was ill. Was she still a member of Congress?
RIP
Trump won’t pick her replacement.
Bless her heart. But she was decently intelligent in her early years. She beat breast cancer...she made lots of wild statements and even strange statements. Said that south and north Vietnam were separate countries...many others. Voted 100% with Joe Biden. Her cancers could have spread to her brain...she made a horribly profane bunch of statements about her staff...she later apologized..
I believe she is facing a merciful, but just God. He will judge righteously. As far as her earthly political accomplishments go...we have lots of social trouble because of her actions. She hated the Tea party. Compared them to the KKK. Sounds like she would have failed the IQ test where shapes of objects are correlated to one grouping or another. Sponsored a bill to register every firearm.
Sic Transit Gloria...and let’s MAGA, and make it better for all our children.
Congress people are voted on every 2 years. The Congressional election is the same day as the Presidential election. Lee won her primary to run for the seat again. Her opponent was Amanda Edwards, a former Lee intern. The republican winner in the primary was Lana Centonze. So I’d say this Edwards woman will probably be running against Centonze.
P
One of my brothers lasted 2.5 months after diagnosis.
Depends on the state. Here in MO our local Congressman died a few months before Election Day. The governor (different sate laws may differ) held two elections on Election Day. One to fill the remainder of his term and another for the next term. The Congressman’s widow (Mrs. Emerson) won both.
Yeah, and most of them are vastly more valuable to the world than her.
Thank God this horrible woman is dead.
She sure loved SOTU photo ops
She now realizes life begins at conception.
May she rest in peace.
So now, instead of being told that you have terminal pancreatic cancer and will die in three weeks, they tell you that you will die in three months.
Great!
Regards,
I have nothing good to say.
Pancreatic cancer is usually described as a “rare” diagnosis, but I’m having trouble believing that. Far too many notable people seem to have been affected by it lately.
Yeah, every time I’ve heard of someone having PC the death happened in 6 months or less. Hard way to go - R.I.P. SJL.
