President Biden has dropped months of resistance and agreed to grant Secret Service protection to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the move at the regular White House press briefing Monday after Trump was grazed with a bullet at a Saturday rally.
“In light of this weekend’s events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr,” Mayorkas said.
Hours earlier, former President Donald Trump demanded that Kennedy receive Secret Service protection, calling it the “right thing to do.”
“In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately,” the 78-year-old former president wrote on Truth Social.
“Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!” he added.
Trump’s demand came two days after he was left bloodied by a sniper’s bullet that struck his ear during a rally in Butler, Pa.
The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, killed one rally-goer and left two others critically wounded before he was shot and killed by authorities.
Kennedy Jr, whose father and uncle were assassinated in the 1960s, has made repeated requests for Secret Service protection since launching his bid for the White House – first as a Democrat and later as an independent – but he has been denied by the Biden administration.

To be honest, Trump being given a pretend protection detail was more damaging than having none at all. With none at all he could/would have had his own protection lined up, and they would not have left the only good spot for an assassin wide open.
I’ve said recently that RFK should have secret service protection but after realizing that the secret service was the means through which the Deep State was able to almost assassinate Trump, I actually wonder if the secret service should be disbanded and candidates given vouchers to hire their own security.
I thought he said he had nothing to do with that decision.
Thank goodness. Not my candidate at all but the principle of the thing demands this. I watched TV when RFK senior was shot and just after MLK. Don’t need more of these.
I remember RFK saying “We’re all dying here in this heat so I’ll finish up now.”

Gee - it took an assassination attempt, that was milliseconds from being successful, to get the clown’s handlers to protect his opponents from death.

Simple. “ricochet” bullets made the other holes.
But this was used as a pretext to ban foreign made cheap handguns and 5 shot bolt action Army surplus rifles in the US.
What is interesting is the handgun used was made in the USA. A 22 caliber Iver-Johnson Cadet revolver.

Heck yes. The astounding thing is that they only woke up to the political ramifications of that NOW. Does the entire administration have dementia? Perhaps the twenty-year olds running the country never heard of JFK and RFK.
