**Thirteen bullet holes for Sirhan Sirhan’s handgun which shot 8.**
Simple. “ricochet” bullets made the other holes.
But this was used as a pretext to ban foreign made cheap handguns and 5 shot bolt action Army surplus rifles in the US.
What is interesting is the handgun used was made in the USA. A 22 caliber Iver-Johnson Cadet revolver.

Good explanation.

I remember in the July, 1967 Detroit riots the thousands of rounds shot had some go up and down somewhere, making people think someone else was now shooting at them. “What goes up must go down” was a police explanation for spent rounds dropping or ricocheting.

Side note. My buddies and I worked on a group project for our college class at my friends rented room in the block of the motel in the famous book The Algiers Motel Incident by John Hersey. Hersey won the Pulitzer Prize for A Bell For Adono. Three were killed there in a controversial police incident.
Close call but it was about a week earlier than the riots.
