The local Pennsylvania sheriff defended the armed officer who encountered former President Donald Trump’s would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks on the rooftop moments before the shooting — claiming it was the right call to retreat after the gunman pointed the weapon at him.
Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe confirmed Monday that a local officer made contact with Crooks after being hoisted up to the roof by another officer — but fled when the sniper pointed his AR-style assault rifle at the officer.
“I would have done the same thing, absolutely,” the sheriff said.
comment. “All I know is the officer had both hands on the roof to get up on the roof, never made it because the shooter had turned towards the officer, and rightfully and smartly, the officer let go,” Slupe told KDKA.
The gunman immediately fired up to eight rounds at Trump, wounding him and killing a hero firefighter in the stands. Two others were also wounded.

Well, the main thing is that the officer made it back home that night to his family.
1. Anyone here ever been to an event similar to this?? A concert, maybe??
This guy had to get into a parking area (I haven’t seen those unattended in years. Then, he had to walk (I’ve never been to one where the walk wasn’t at least a quarter mile at best) through the parking area - WITH A RIFLE, unnoticed??
And it looks to me that the area where the building he climbed up on had lots of people in the area. He got through all of them carrying a rifle too??
Nonsense. Try bringing in a can of Sprite into an event like that. The volunteer ushers will get all S.W.A.T. on you!
This is all nonsense.
It was SET UP to get rid of Donald Trump.
Exactly!
Even if it was a quick duck with the intent to bring out a weapon. How many LEO's practice urgently climbing a ladder with a active weapon in one hand?
In any event, it sounds like the gunfight commenced within a second or two. Who in their right mind would stick their head up if they had reason to believe the shooter was aiming at them?
One of my early questions was whether it was that LEO that shot the suspect; with the right angle of fire they could have serioously disrupted his plans.
HOW FUCKING EMBARRASSING IS THAT OFFICER?
LAWSUIT. The family of the firefighter who died should the others who were shot should SUE the SS and SUE the cowardly pigs.
Exactly
When will this question be asked?
So, he retreated, alerted the Secret Service and called for backup, right? No? He just wandered away and kept it to himself?
Dozens of people noticed.
They notified the police.
They notified the secret service.
All of this happened minutes before any shooting happened.
The police and secret service almost certainly called in the potential threat.
Nobody on stage was notified.
The “missing link” is the Secret Service command and control.
They were neck deep in the assassination plot.
“He saw the shooter, saw the rifle (it was pointed at him) he how about a little gangster action duck and put his pistol over the edge and blast the little creep?”
“it works in the movies...........................”
Someone on here who watches too many movies said the other day that they would have shot the shooters index finger off.🙄
True- self included, most here know (if they know about this kind of situation or have been in one similar) what they would have done (or rather, might have done). Absence or presence of a ladder (which is visible from overhead google photos zoomed in)— the ladder may not have been in line of sight, for hands free pop and drop.
If cop #1 was being “Hoisted” up on the roof by cop#2, why didn’t cop #1 tell cop #2, “Hey, there is a shooter on the roof, broadcast man with a gun on roof”?
Oh I know why, because cop #2 had cop #1 on his shoulders and was hanging onto cop #1 legs and cop#2 didn’t have a free hand to use his radio.
Simple...☺
Or maybe the SS told him the ladder was for SS (and their long haired 20 year old contractors) only.
“If it were a DOG, the cop would’ve shot it down, not cower in fear.”
Last I checked, dogs aren’t packing semi-auto rifles, and not all cops shoot dogs.
Did the Officer get home safely?
That’s all that matters.
Again, there were only two actual SS agents at this event, according to Bongino. All the rest were DHS security agents of variable tenacity, and capabilities. The counterfire snipers are not agents, but are in the Secret Service (or contracted by them- to wear the vests saying “Police”—smaller letters under “Secret Service”.
Mayorkas is lying about the actual fact that the Trump protection detail SS agent in charge has requested and been refused additional agents and resources. Mayorkas, lying as always said “no request made...by the Campaign!!” What an a@@.
So he’s a coward too. It doesn’t take much guts to back shoot a guy laying on his stomach. Duck down wait 5 sec and pop up and fire.
From the back of the building towards the shooter is still shooting toward Trump and the crowd. If he'd have missed, he'd be endangering everyone down range.
Both resign please
So that’s two people that have no business of being in law enforcement.
Yes. But apparently this thread is awash in would be heroes. All safely miles away.
