Local police encountered attempted-assassin Thomas Crooks just moments before he tried to kill former president Donald Trump — but failed to stop the gunman despite the clear threat, according to a report.
After rallygoers spotted Crooks on the roof of a manufacturing plant just 130 yards from the stage where Trump was speaking just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, police were notified and one officer climbed a ladder to investigate, law enforcement officials said on the condition of anonymity.
There the officer encountered Crooks, who pointed his AR-style rifle at them.
The officer then backed down the ladder, and Crooks immediately took aim and loosed eight shots at the former president – grazing him in the ear, killing one bystander in the rally crowd, and gravely wounding two others.

This story is so poorly written, I just don’t buy it. It sounds like the crap from the New York Times.
Which means they had their rifles pointed in the gunman’s direction before he fired.
That said, Trump won the ghetto yesterday. He’s been ‘systemically targeted’ by the ‘justice system’, has a mug shot, and has now survived being shot, an assassin survivor! Gangsta!!!
It was a fixed ladder for roof access. This roof access point should have been identified and secured by SS prior to the rally, not to mention continuous observation of any area with line of sight to the podium. Typically it's just a few bolts holding these ladders in place. The fact that a rooftop 130 yards from the podium was "outside the security perimeter" is outrageous. Heads must roll.
If you don’t, duck one rung, then pull it out and fire, after climbing one rung.
It’s not rocket science, even for a police “person.”
That guy was an excellent witness! He even made the point that not only did the local police and SS not confront the sniper, but that they made no attempt to get Trump under cover knowing a sniper was about! The witness stated he couldn’t believe that he was still able to hear Trump speaking even after he’d warned local police and SS.
They gave him 3 clear shots at Trump and a few more “contested” attempts before taking down the perp even though a dozen or so people were pointing him out. I don’t know if they had orders to let the shooter finish Trump before moving on him but if that was suggested I wouldn’t rule it out.
What I would like to know is how much time elapsed between the first sightings of the shooter and when it was relayed to law enforcement? Why wasn’t it reported to Secret Service immediately when the first person reported it to law enforcement? Wasn’t there any coordination?
Hell, he’s lucky they didn’t shoot him for trying to give out their secret plan....

There is a fixed ladder going to the roof of my local McDonalds. Management bolted on a board, making it impossible to climb the ladder unless the board is removed. This is common practice.
Odd that my local McDonalds had better roof security than what we saw at Trump’s rally. Or maybe not so odd.
All LEOs went home safe. That’s what is important.

Wait, the cop thought some guy with hair down past his shoulders (not even tied back for action) and not dressed like Secret Service, was Secret Service? Didn’t even ask? Look at the actual SS guys with the rifles. Dark blue uniforms, hats, identifying words on their backs. The number of very stupid people involved in security keeps growing.
