The need for stability and experience should eliminate the young MAGA-in-a-hurry types like Sen. J.D. Vance or Members of the House.
As the GOP convention nears, and voters focus on the election, the race remains closer than it should be given Mr. Biden’s infirmities. Swing voters still worry about Mr. Trump and the possibility of four more years of turmoil. The former President can help his campaign, and the country, by projecting stability and calm.
We know many readers will think this is impossible, and maybe it is. Yet he showed admirable restraint after the debate last week, letting Democrats implode, until his profane golf-cart outburst.
The opportunity is there to present a reassuring alternative if Mr. Trump wants to take it. And he has a timely opening to send that message with his vice presidential choice in the next week. Now leading in the polls, he doesn’t need an attack-dog VP or someone to rally his core voters. He needs a choice who shows mature judgment and has the ability to appeal to anxious and undecided voters.

“I have nothing against Hindus”
Me, either. I’d socialize with them, “do lunch”, etc. But being the #1 in this Christian country — I’d have a problem with that.
“we’re seeing right now how much power a political spouse can have.”
Exactly. And Jill isn’t the only one. Didn’t Nancy Reagan influence some of RR’s schedule, maybe actions, as the result of some clairvoyant’s suggestions? Eleanor Roosevelt. Edith Wilson for sure. I doubt if Hillary was a shrinking violet when it came to Bubba’s decisions.
He would be a calming choice for those who think Trump is too wild.
If you’re that shallow, believing it’s about “scary turbans”, then there’s no reason to discuss. I can explain it to you, but I can’t make you understand.
(I’ve interacted with many Hindu ladies when I lived in Hawaii. Nice people.)
ah yes, the old “you’re a racist” if you don’t worship “diversity” trope. Nice.

This was her speech a couple weeks ago. At a Christian forum. She speaks about her Christian faith all her life. Why is she presumed Hindu?
Really. Americans, especially here on FR, pushing for diversity in the Oval Office. There are no words!
Make that definitely 4 more years of turmoil instigated by the demwits.
Why did you capitalize “black?”
“Tim Scott said on tv last week that the 2020 election was fair.”
Saying anything else plays right into biden’s hands. 2020 happened. Ignore it. Win 2024.
Mike Pompeo? Uh no! Mikey plotted to assasinate Assange and threatened to arrest Tucker Carlson. He’s a card carrying globalist in case you haven’t ever listened to one of his Klaus Scwab type speeches. I predict Trump has plans for Pompeo and they aren’t good.
I’ve got nothing against Glen Youngkin but it looks like Trump doesn’t want him.
J D Vance frankly might be a good choice. After perusing his personal history a la his biography “Hillbilly Elegy” and checking out his voting history which so far has not hit a sour note I can’t find a reason to take him off the list. He hasn’t been in office long enough to be co-op fed by the leadership and the fact that he’s more of a populist than a Republican is a plus for me. He’s my second choice right after Ron Paul.
To ignore a 3,000# Mastadon in the room is foolish too.
” who in the VP race”
This is the heart of the problem. We always look at current politicians as the only qualified contenders. I am only looking outside of national politics, for patriots.
The fact that the unqualified woman of color has held the job for almost four years, tells me we don’t need a seasoned (corrupted) politician to take the right seat.
I’m looking more at folks such as Ted Nugent, Dan Bongino, or my UPS guy, all MAGA Conservatives, not corrupted politicians.
There’s hundreds of thousands of good Americans out there, who would be better for the country, than anyone of these so called “contenders”.
THAT settles it!
I am not sure anyone really wants that grief to be linked to Trump as you know whoever joins Trump as VP will be attacked equally as violent as Trump has been.
Rupert’s WSJ is just another globalist mouthpiece!
no VP from Fla,SC,NY or Burgum.
I’m happy to sacrifice a senate seat for JD Vance.
a decent 2028 candidate.
I’d be happy with Carson too but don’t think he’d run in 28.
scary but media usually gets the shortlist right.
Scott is warmonger.
voted for the biden budget and Uke funding.
Just say NO to one of MCConnell’s RINO boys.
>>It’s a reality, stop pretending otherwise.
It was also a reality that you couldn’t run for office with the building of a border wall, stopping chain migration, and banning immigrants from certain radical Muslim countries as major policy platforms, and win -until Trump did it. Turns out that even Hispanic-Americans like common sense immigration policies and law and order, like the rest of us.
Trump’s Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action, and Trump touts that decision as a victory to this day, and yet his popularity with Blacks and Hispanics continues to grow. Turns out there are plenty of minority voters who are getting tired of the pandering just like the rest of us.
These “realities” are realities until someone with a spine decides to challenge them.
I’d much prefer someone outside the box, as well. Somebody who could articulate policy positions and be able to lead so Americans would listen and follow. For a while I was hoping Pat Sajak would run for office. He’s intelligent, has common sense, has a great knowledge of our history, and a speaks with wit and charm. People would be drawn to someone like that. Nugent and Bongino are so angry and “out there”, they push people away.
What is the difference between MAGA conservative and conservative?
