The need for stability and experience should eliminate the young MAGA-in-a-hurry types like Sen. J.D. Vance or Members of the House.
As the GOP convention nears, and voters focus on the election, the race remains closer than it should be given Mr. Biden’s infirmities. Swing voters still worry about Mr. Trump and the possibility of four more years of turmoil. The former President can help his campaign, and the country, by projecting stability and calm.
We know many readers will think this is impossible, and maybe it is. Yet he showed admirable restraint after the debate last week, letting Democrats implode, until his profane golf-cart outburst.
The opportunity is there to present a reassuring alternative if Mr. Trump wants to take it. And he has a timely opening to send that message with his vice presidential choice in the next week. Now leading in the polls, he doesn’t need an attack-dog VP or someone to rally his core voters. He needs a choice who shows mature judgment and has the ability to appeal to anxious and undecided voters.

Of those on the mooted short list, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum also brings executive experience and a history of business success and knowledge about the economy. Marco Rubio is a more familiar national figure, but as a Senator he has no executive experience and his past criticism of Mr. Trump will play in a loop on TV ads and social media.
The need for stability and experience should eliminate the young MAGA-in-a-hurry types like Sen. J.D. Vance or Members of the House. They lack experience and wouldn’t be a reassuring contrast to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Republicans are understandably giddy about the Democratic troubles, but the country remains closely divided, and the election is a long way from over. Democrats may find a way to nominate a more formidable candidate than Mr. Biden, and they are likely to unite behind whoever it is. Mr. Trump needs a running mate who causes voters to stop and say: Yes, that person could be a good President.
I think it should be Dr. Ben Carson. He’ll help with the state of Michigan, and he’ll bring more of the Black vote over to Trump. Plus, we wouldn’t need to fill a governorship, or senate seat.
They are closet Never Trumpers who stick the knife in like Judas Pence.
I love Carson but he’s a little too squishy for me. Trump needs a fighter who is loyal to him and has gone through fire because of it.
How do any of these entice Independents and Democrats?
It should be EXACTLY what the Murdochs do not want. It should not be a RINO establishment type. It should be JD Vance....somebody the Deep State would fear as much as president Trump.
Woman or black. I like Stefanik. Dr Carson is too old and too mild mannered
C’mon people. It’s going to be Tim Scott. Anyone with a brain knows this. And I think he will be great.
Translation; The GOPe wants to install their Bush for Reagan, or their Pence to Trump.
There is nothing more hated by the left than a Black conservative. Look at how they treat Justice Thomas. They call them house n----s. Black women are a lost cause. They are the most hate-filled idiots I've ever come across. And the way white liberal women disparage black conservatives is the most hypocritical thing I've witnessed. A Black republican on the ticket doesn't attract a significant amount of black voters simply because of their race.
Horrible. War monger like Graham. And last I heard he’s never tamed a woman yet. We can do much better than him.
I know, I'm dreaming.
Tim Scott said on tv last week that the 2020 election was fair.
Dr. Ben Carson
+++++!!!!!
my gut, too, says it will be tim scott ... there are worse choices ... many as a matter of fact ...
“Swing voters still worry about Mr. Trump and the possibility of four more years of turmoil.”
The turmoil was Trump calling out the press on their lies and about which he was shown to be right. Biden has caused much more turmoil than Trump did.
You nailed it.
Any suggestion fr the WSJ needs to viewed with immense skepticism.

Mike Pompeo, Rubio and Haley
That's a complete load of BS. Historically very few VP's ever go on to assume the responsibilities of the presidency except in a dire emergency. There are no rigid job qualifications for the Office of the Presidency, and to pretend there are is always the Democrat Party's favorite game to play. So yeah, the WSJ opens its leftist mouth once again.
