Trump’s New Running Mate Imperative
WSJ ^ | July 7, 2024 | Editorial Board

Posted on 07/07/2024 7:24:53 PM PDT by BurgessKoch

The need for stability and experience should eliminate the young MAGA-in-a-hurry types like Sen. J.D. Vance or Members of the House.

As the GOP convention nears, and voters focus on the election, the race remains closer than it should be given Mr. Biden’s infirmities. Swing voters still worry about Mr. Trump and the possibility of four more years of turmoil. The former President can help his campaign, and the country, by projecting stability and calm.

We know many readers will think this is impossible, and maybe it is. Yet he showed admirable restraint after the debate last week, letting Democrats implode, until his profane golf-cart outburst.

The opportunity is there to present a reassuring alternative if Mr. Trump wants to take it. And he has a timely opening to send that message with his vice presidential choice in the next week. Now leading in the polls, he doesn’t need an attack-dog VP or someone to rally his core voters. He needs a choice who shows mature judgment and has the ability to appeal to anxious and undecided voters.

He said “crap”, as far as I can recall. Maybe the F word.

Excellent post. Especially this part,

"It’s obvious they’re terrified of MAGA specifically, and conservative populism in general, and are trying to ensure that there is no successor after Trump to carry the MAGA banner forward. It’s so transparent what they’re trying to do; they really do think we’re stupid."

The democrats and NT’ers see that their ticket is a failure. Their new plan is to co-op Trump’s VP pick, continue to use lawfare to rid themselves of Trump, and then elevate their guy/gal to the President. And, just like that, all will be right in their world.

A Haley/Romney/Ryan type would then be President, Trump would be gone, and the elite would be back in control. Hopefully, Trump knows to ignore them.

I think it should be me. I bring in average working man that is completely outside of the swamp. I would help drain that swamp.

Tulsi is a Hindu.

That's her right and prerogative and comes no where near how "good Muslims" follow a theo-political cult that's utterly at odds with our Constitutional republic. Bathhouse Barry's a twisted enigma anyway, being homosexual with a wife who may or not be a hermaphrodite.

Vivek Ramaswamy, also Hindu, "had criticized secularism, saying that the U.S. was founded on Christian values or Judeo-Christian values; that he shares those values and that he believes in one God."

I sincerely believe he'd be the best choice out of the whole bunch; sharing so many positive traits with President Trump, is absolutely brilliant and displays love for our nation and it's values like few others.

Americans just need to weigh those positives against "check boxes". One Kamala Harris is enough.

So damn tired of the DUmocrat version of checking the gender box and affirmative action picks. The only thing that matters is continuation of the reversal of government intrusion and a restoration of the Constitutional republic. Anything beyond that will just be who we want to preside over her ashes as we are close to being finished as a country with DUmocrats or those who need to appease some minority group in any position of power.

Rand Paul would be a vast 24/7 commercial about how he wants to take away social security with democrats having receipts. His words would be in every commercial. I think it would cause trump to lose.

Isn’t McConnell leaving leadership in January?

“Victor Davis Hanson, Thomas Sowell, or Mark Steyn.”

I always read their stuff.

Burgum is a neoCON Ukraine-first POS.

Mike Huckabee would be a good choice. People love him.

I love Rand, but you’re probably right about that. I remember when he first got elected he went on MSNBC and advocated repeal of the civil rights act ha ha. His point was accurate, but it was just used by the media to turn off voters.

“That’s her right and prerogative “

Absolutely! And it’s my right and prerogative to NOT vote for someone who has a slew of gods instead of The True and Living God. If Americans vote for that instead of a Christian, then we get the ultimate destruction we deserve. VR = Hindu. JDV = Hindu wife.

Unfortunately that horse left the barn many decades ago. Most American Christians chose to worship ‘diversity’ instead of Jesus and now we are faced with the destruction of Christendom.

Scott may be the smart choice. This year’s VP IS the 2028 nominee-in-waiting. The democrats will nominate MD gov Wes Moore and the media will again dry-hump that dog. Having Scott already in place, the eneMedia won’t be able to pray their hosannas about the race of their preferred candidate.

I agree with your assessment, but the WSJ article also gives me the vibe of “ease up on Biden, he’s old, he’s feeble…”

I say BS to that. I remember when the WSJ was much more conservative than it is today.

I used to buy it every day just for the editorials.

Thomas Sowell would be awesome, but he’s a scholar. I think becoming a politician would almost be demeaning, he has such a great intellect. He would cut Kamala to ribbons in any debate, almost without uttering a word…..
