I took on two elderly Basset Hound Sisters a few years back, I LOVE Bassets and their 70-year old owner died, unexpectedly. The Basset Sisters HAD to be kept together.
I found out about them through a woman who used to work for me while she was going through college to be a Vet Tech. She knew of my love of Bassets, so I was the first one she called.
Sandy’s (deceased) son was THRILLED that I would take on the girls. He was living in PA and his Mom was in WI, so he had a lot on his plate to deal with as it was.
Belle and Pearl lived with us for a few years and had a BLAST living ‘off leash’ on the farm. They were already 12+ years old, so they both died of old-age doggy ailments, but we tended to them and put them down (via a Vet!) without them suffering much more than a day each.
I am now ‘owned’ by an aging lady Beagle who is supposedly ‘retired from the game’ but still likes to hunt every day. Dolly is also 12+ years and is snoring quietly behind me as I type. ;)
It’s actually quite rewarding caring for older dogs, as well as all the puppies I’ve raised. Different needs, but the LOVE they give you on either end of the spectrum is pretty much priceless. :)
These dogs just seem to find me. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. *HEART*
It looks refreshing for these hot summer days doesn’t it? Actually I have it pretty warm up in the loft. The two week old kitten and Mom are in the bathroom up here. The mom just neglects this kitten and doesn’t even snuggle with her to keep her warm. So I keep the temperature high.

How is your back pain today?
Winter, they all white kitten, is the baby that the mother won’t feed. I have a little syringe with what they call a miracle nipple on it. The kittens really like it and are able to latch onto it. Of course she’d rather have mother’s milk and will rarely take the formula. I just have to get her to about 5 weeks old, three more weeks, and then she can eat what food all she wants.
The poor little tuxedo is about 7 weeks old. Different litter, and some ex-friends saddled me with him. Of course I’ll take care of the kitten, I’ll never put him back where he was, but they didn’t even discuss it or take any responsibility. But it actually works out okay, I never liked them and just had to be polite. Now I don’t have to do that even anymore.

It wasn’t too bad until the last part of my shopping at the supermarket.
I cam home and took some pain medicine, so it is quieted down some.
I am feeling much better. If my ears would unclog and stay unclogged, I would be up and about. As it is, my balance is off a bit. But, I am on the mend.
