Hope you Massians enjoyed cheap and convenient rides. Its over now.
Also like how the government used the lawsuit to quash a ballot initiative they didn’t like. Who cares about what the voters wanted.
Not that we lowly citizens have a right to petition or anything.
It’s as if the people running things don’t know or even care about basic economics.
If Uber and Lyft don’t like it and want a different business model they should buy and insure their own fleets of vehicles and hire employee drivers. They have choices.
Uber and Lyft will be impossible to find in Mass.
Go for 75.00/hr! Customers would still Love them!
So Uber and Lyft will raise their rates in Massachusettes and fewer people will use them.
.
A substantial remainder of which will be distributed to current and former Massachusetts politicians. (You know that's true!)
Uber will either raise prices so high which will eliminate it as a viable company or only the two remaining drivers will get the $32.50 an hour.
But don’t they pay for their own cars and gas out of that too?
If so, they’ll still be dependent on Trump stopping the taxes on their tips, because life in MA ain’t cheap!
$32.50 an hour - it’ll be cheaper to just get a taxi.
Suppose you are an Uber driver and you make a 20-mile one way trip with a passenger. If you drive at an average of 40 mph for this trip, you make the trip in 30 minutes. Your base pay is $16.25 for that 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, you have to account for the fuel, maintenance and use of your vehicle. The current IRS allowable reimbursement rate for business use of a vehicle is 67 cents per mile, which means your average vehicle operating cost for that 20-mile trip is $13.40. And remember … you have to double this operating cost if you are making an empty return trip.
This is why Uber and Lyft are basically sweatshops on wheels.
This was bound to happen. These driver services cut corners, paid low wages, used personal insurance requirements for drivers instead of commercial insurance, and lots of other stuff. They profited but drivers didn’t, wore out their vehicles and so forth. Good to see it sort itself out and Uber and Lyft paying their fair share.
At that rate, I’ll buy a car, reg. ins. etc., even fuel it, and drive myself - at a lower rate than the Uber/Lyft.
2026
Just walk to a hotel, bud. There’ll be drivers nearby with rate postings.
Just type in the license plate number in the LP app to get reviews.
Can you do Logan for $15?
I love Hamilton & Lincoln.
“Uber and Lyft agree to pay drivers $32.50 per hour in Massachusetts settlement”
well, that will be the end of Uber and Lyft in Massachusetts, AND this will embolden other states to price Uber and Lyft out of business in their states as well ...
In Spain there is a company called BlaBlaCar.
One can ride an intercity shared car like is done in the Arab world from say Seville to Cordoba.
This effectively destroys Uber.
