he former Los Angeles home of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe was declared a historic cultural monument Wednesday, preventing it from being demolished by its current owners.
The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously – in a 12-0 vote – to approve the motion introduced by Councilwoman Traci Park who represents the 11th District where the Spanish Colonial-style home is located.
Monroe bought the one-story home on Helena Drive in 1962 for $75,000. It was the only residence she ever owned. She died there six months later.

This is stupidity on parade....................
All this hoopla for a hooker with a heart ❤️ of gold?
Does this count as a ‘taking’ under the 5th Amendment. Are the current owners going to be compensated by the city?
The upkeep must have been something else..
That would be about 780,000 in today’s money. A big chunk of change for most folks, but not much for Los Angeles Home buyers.
But this old house will still be a shrine.
From what I have read, she was quite the slob and had terrrible personal hygiene.
Lived there six months and it becomes a historical monument? Crazy

With 14 previous owners and dozens of renovations over the last 62 years, it would be interesting to know how closely this house even resembles what is was when Monroe owned it. My guess is that there is very little historical value anymore.

There you have it. The obvious ‘historical value’ link to MM is in how many times it’s been passed around and used. Like Norma Jean, not much of anything original has been left to recognize.
If only they could have saved Rush Limbaugh’s home!
:(
I would have paid good money to tour Rush’s home!
Yeah, it sure is. She only owned the place for six months
prior to her death. I’m sorry she croaked so young, but this
isn’t a landmark. It’s a blemish.
I bet she was a hawk tuey kinda girl

If only they could have saved Rush Limbaugh’s home!
I wonder if his home was torn down so quickly out of spite.
Other that (perhaps) QE2, can you name a better-known woman in the world in the 20th Century?
I am gratified they’re preserving it. Yes, she was conflicted, as was Elvis; but if anyone is noteworthy, I think those two are.
I personally believe that
It was a shame his widow didn’t have the vision to imagine it as a museum. It would have been a cash cow for decades.
She may have screwed Bobby Kennedy in that house - so its a national historic landmark!
