2 federal courts just blocked student-loan forgiveness and cheaper monthly payments under Biden's new repayment plan

Joe Biden's new student-loan repayment plan just got dealt two blows by federal courts.

On Monday, judges in Kansas and Missouri district courts handed down their rulings on two separate lawsuits filed by GOP state attorneys general seeking to block the SAVE income-driven repayment plan, introduced last summer to lower borrowers' monthly payments.

Earlier this year, the Education Department started implementing a SAVE provision ahead of schedule that canceled student debt for borrowers with original balances of $12,000 or less who made as few as 10 years of qualifying payments. The attorneys general argued that relief was unconstitutional, among other things, and requested the relief — and the plan overall — be blocked.

The Missouri court ruled on one of the lawsuits led by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey that the Education Department can no longer carry out student-loan forgiveness via SAVE as the legal process continues.

🚨BREAKING: The Court has granted our motion to BLOCK Joe Biden’s illegal student loan plan.

Congress never gave Biden the authority to saddle working Americans with half-a-trillion dollars in other people's debt.

A huge win for the Constitution.— Attorney General Andrew Bailey (@AGAndrewBailey) June 24, 2024

Just bail the students out on the condition that the Education Department gets abolished and all Education matters are returned to state jurisdiction.

I thought the SCOTUS rule was the final one.

I’m not sure. But this is a slam-dunk issue for the Stupid Party.
Bail out student loans with corresponding cuts in other departments, and close the Education Department down.

I've got one grown kid who paid off all her loans and another kid who is so far behind he'll never see the light of day...he's been basically paying interest and has a huge debt....

if we are giving illegals free college, I think we can forgive loans to real Americans who have attempted to pay and are good citizens otherwise.....

trillions to Ukraine and Israel, but leave our citizens under debt slavery.

I graduated with a BS degree that was all paid, no debt, from a private university, no less.
Why should we pay for these guys that can’t figure it all out?
Screw them if they can’t do the work necessary.

Forgive student debt? No problem!

Under the equal protection clause, you would have to forgive ALL student debt, ever. Basically make all higher education free, retroactively.

I would like the US government to give me my college tuition back. And what I paid for my kids.

I wonder how many trillions that would be?

It shouldn't take nearly that long to pay off such a small amount of money.

Yeah, then let’s repeal any and all credits earned and any degrees gained by students who won’t pay back those loans. It would be like repossessing a car you don’t pay the payments on... Right?

Problem solved, because it’s only fair to the taxpayers... No tickie... No ridey.

I thought Biden had already directed that student debt was cancelled, though I think there are some limits.

Hold it! You think the taxpayers should have to pay back their debts? Regardless of what the stupid congress does in other areas with our money we’re still not on the hook for a debt these students signed off on... Sorry, but that includes your kids.

My kid was smart enough to pay as he went along and not take out any loans. He got through it and doesn’t owe anyone anything. He now has a high paying job and is trying to live the American dream. He doesn’t owe your kids a dang thing.

After paying 100k out of pocket for my kids to go to school, I have no interest in paying a share of your kid’s loan. The debt isn’t “forgiven” it’s handed to taxpayers. No thanks.

Why deprive Biden to buy some votes at taxpayers expense?

But the recipients of our taxpayer funding for these people, many of whom have lucrative professional careers, already had lavish practices in celebration. So it isn’t fair./S

So these students will once again have to pay their loans? All of Biden’s efforts are for not?
