The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed an amendment as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025.
The amendment H.R. 8070 will automatically register all draft-age male U.S. residents with the Selective Service System for a possible military draft, based on information from other Federal databases.
This new system of automatic draft registration would replace the existing system, in place since 1980, in which young men have the freedom to decide whether or not to sign up for the draft.
According to People’s World, the automatic draft registration proposal was initiated by the Selective Service System (SSS) as part of its annual budget request to Congress.
The Gateway Pundit reported that it was introduced by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.). Houlahan is a former Air Force officer. It was endorsed by HASC Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) and approved by a voice vote of the full committee without audible opposition.
The amended bill states:
Automatic Registration: The Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. 3801 et seq.) is amended by striking section 3 (50 U.S.C. 3802) and inserting the following new section 3:
“SEC. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this title, every male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing in the United States, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, shall be automatically registered under this Act by the Director of the Selective Service System.
“(2) This section shall not apply to any alien lawfully admitted to the United States as a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101) for so long as he continues to maintain a lawful nonimmigrant status in the United States.
The bill was approved in the House with a vote of 217 to 199. Among the votes, 211 Republicans supported the measure, while Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Thomas Massie (KY), and Matt Rosendale (MT) voted no.
196 Democrats voted against the bill, with 6 breaking ranks to vote in favor. The legislation now advances to the Senate for further deliberation.
In an X post, Rep. Greene defended her decision to vote no on the bill.
“Today I voted NO on the NDAA. While there were many great things in the bill, it still allocates the annual $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative which is used to fund the war in Ukraine. I am adamantly opposed to the war in Ukraine and I do not think funding a foreign war should be a mandatory annual funding requirement in our US military funding bill. The House also passed a measure automatically registering men aged 18 to 26 for selective service as part of the NDAA. I think we all know where that could lead.”

The NDAA also featured the largest military pay raise in history. Read the press release below from Bill Huizenga (R-MI):
Today, the House passed H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. This legislation is designed to enhance our national security and military readiness with a special focus on quality of life for our military community. H.R. 8070 authorizes a 19.5% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers while providing a 4.5% pay raise for other service members. Importantly, this legislation includes three amendments from Congressman Huizenga that address NATO funding, arctic security, and mitigating American military data from being siphoned, exposed, or shared with Communist China. H.R. 8070 passed the House by a vote of 217-209.
“This legislation strengthens our military readiness and capabilities while improving housing, childcare, and the overall quality of life for the men and women serving in our Armed Forces,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Importantly, this legislation takes steps to root out waste, saving taxpayers $30 billion by cutting inefficient programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy. Additionally, this bill blocks the Biden Administration’s reduction in U.S. Special Forces while stopping the Biden Administration from transferring terrorists currently housed in Guantanamo Bay to prisons in the United States. Lastly, this legislation includes multiple amendments I have authored to enhance our national security and counter aggressive actions taken by Russia and China.”
This year’s House version of the NDAA included three amendments from Congressman Huizenga:
Expresses the sense of Congress that each NATO member state should commit, at a minimum, 2% of its GDP to defense spending to ensure NATO’s military readiness. In 2022, only 7 of the 31 NATO member states met their obligations. Now, nearly all NATO countries have a plan to reach the 2% goal, however, there are still some that remain delinquent. Those countries are Canada, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Belgium, and Luxembourg. There is the potential for this to be addressed at the upcoming NATO Summit held in Washington, D.C. next month.
Requires the Department of Defense to report to Congress building upon the restriction on DOD’s contact with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) by detailing measures DOD is taking to mitigate the risk of the PLA gaining indirect knowledge of US Armed Forces’ equipment and operational tactics, techniques, and produces through interaction with the militaries of US allies and partners. Requires a report to Congress on the military activities of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China in the Arctic Region. Additionally, the amendment requests detailed information on the Arctic Council as well as the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador-at-large for the Arctic Region and how the U.S. plans to engage with other Council members. Recently, the Arctic has seen an uptick in activity from both the Russians and the Chinese Communist Party. This amendment is designed to refocus the effort with our strategic partners and allies to prevent expansion of both China and Russia in the region.
It actually happened twice. And I don’t remember specifically what I was having to apply for either time but it was at a government office...and I had to sign up for it in order to receive whatever it was. I believe the second time it was my drivers license renewal and the lady asked “have you signed up for the draft?” and I told her yes, I had already done that, she laughed and said “I’ve never had anyone say that. Let me get the card for you” and she made me fill it out again. That doesn’t sound right as I’m not sure the state agency would have any involvement in that, but I don’t recall going to any federal office to register for anything else.
In any event, it is and has been a felony not to register... https://www.usa.gov/register-selective-service
This article from Hoft stating: “This new system of automatic draft registration would replace the existing system, in place since 1980, *in which young men have the freedom to decide whether or not to sign up for the draft*” is simply false.
upper ranks are decidedly left leaning and hostile to conservatives.
sorry, i wouldn’t volunteer these days.
i would not fight to defend the left’s bs... especially since i’m doing what i can to dismantle it.
I think you summed it up quite well. Many people confuse the Cold War wars with what’s going on today. There are significant differences.
It never was optional - and indeed a felony not to. The TGP Hoft article of this thread is false. You can pretty much count on it if it is TGP and in particular if it is written by one of the Hofts it isn't going to be accurate.
From the bill...
“SEC. 531. SELECTIVE SERVICE SYSTEM: AUTOMATIC REGISTRATION.
(a) Automatic Registration.—The Military Selective Service Act (50
U.S.C. 3801 et seq.) is amended by striking section 3 (50 U.S.C. 3802)
and inserting the following new section 3:
``Sec. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this title, every
male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing
in the United States, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six,
shall be automatically registered under this Act by the Director of the
Selective Service System.
``(2) This section shall not apply to any alien lawfully admitted
to the United States as a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15) of the
Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101) for so long as he
continues to maintain a lawful nonimmigrant status in the United
States.”
Note that a man is not defined. And check out the bit about nonimmigrants...
If they have data on all males, can this data base be utilized to verify voter roles in the event that they want to purge non-existent voters.
It would be a useful list if all males of a certain age are on it, so anyone not on the list should be verified as a citizen.
I find it hard to believe that purging voter roles is so expensive if there is a database of citizens in existence already.
Of course, I may be not understanding the mechanism involved, which would be typical for me.
Sucked into doing what? These voters have already done gone through with this mandatory registration and this bill had nothing to do with it. If not, they are Federal felons.
https://www.usa.gov/register-selective-service
Who must register for Selective Service
Almost all men who are 18-25 years old and live in the United States must register for Selective Service. This includes:
U.S. citizens (U.S. born, dual citizens, and naturalized)
U.S. citizens who live outside of the country
Immigrants (legal permanent residents and undocumented immigrants)
Refugees and asylum seekers
Transgender people who were assigned male gender at birth
People with disabilities
See Selective Service’s full list of who is required and exempt from registering.
Penalties for not registering
There are consequences if you fail to register with Selective Service. It is a federal felony, punishable by fines or a prison sentence. And you may not be eligible for federal jobs, citizenship, or state-funded student financial aid.
Jim Hoft and TGP are just spreading their typical nonsense again. His claim it was optional to register is plainly false.
Just like my generation ...this is NOT voluntary!!
i dont care if you are a Pentecostal or if you comsult coffee grounds while dancing the bugaloo ...
you will sign up or go to jail, period!
That may not work these days.
They have data on ALL ... not just males.
Purging voter roles isn’t expensive.
Truth the Vote has been doing this, quite successfully, over the past several years.
With what we've learned about our involvement in wars since then, the proper reaction to receiving a draft notice can only be to burst out laughing.
Don't worry, the government is always one step ahead of the peons. Zenlensky isn't picky and he usually gets what he wants.

"As of May 2024, only men between the ages of 18 and 26 are required to register with the Selective Service, also known as the draft. However, there have been proposals to expand draft eligibility to women, including:
S. 2150
Would eliminate the requirement for men only to register and expand draft eligibility to all individuals in the applicable age cohort
HR 163
Would require a draft by lottery for men and women ages 18–26 for two-year terms"
.
“”””The last war this country entered properly was WWII.””””
That was the war fought by our army that was 93% draftees.
That is pretty twisted the way you put together that meme, it would give the impression to the ignorant that he was talking about American sons and daughters fighting in Ukraine.
That is what we call lying.
Why is there an FR keyword fakenews on this article? Are Demonicrats trying to lie to American voters?
