Biden’s fuel economy rules for new cars unveiled —here’s what drivers need to know
NY Post ^ | 06/07/2024 | AP

New vehicles sold in the US will have to average about 38 miles per gallon of gasoline in 2031 in real-world driving, up from about 29 mpg this year, under new federal rules unveiled Friday by the Biden administration.

The final rule will increase fuel economy by 2% per year for model years 2027 to 2031 for passenger cars, while SUVs and other light trucks will increase by 2% per year for model years 2029 to 2031, according to requirements released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The final figures are below a proposal released last year.

Administration officials said the less strict requirements will allow the auto industry flexibility to focus on electric vehicles, adding that higher gas-mileage requirements would have imposed significant costs on consumers without sufficient fuel savings to offset them.

And how will they verify numbers? The numbers the automakers use are highly idealized - like a perfectly straight and level road. Will they send out inspectors?

Yes, and its not enough still. There is now a movement to ban natural gas, which is cheap, but I guess an evil fossil fuel.

“1970s-80s muscle car before it’s too late”.

My garage has four cars:

A 1960, one 1964, one 1971, and my everyday 1995.

Someday, your next car will be an old one.

“How did this corruptocracy get here? What gives them the power to tell companies what to make? Seems wrong.”

All of it comes from the Clean Air Act of 1990. Courtesy of Bush 1.0

That gave the Administrative State the ability to define CO2 as a “pollutant”, and everything follows from that.

” Change the carburetor to run on fumes and we will have the 200mpg that has been developed years ago.”

Carburetors do run on fumes.

Modern cars don’t have carburetors.

“Get your 1970s-80s muscle car before it’s too late.”

The 1970s-80s were known as the period of anemic cars. Government regs and the gas crisis killed them.

What drivers need to know is that they should surround each and every slimy DemocRAT after this occurs and dare them to be seen in any vehicle that does not meet these standards. This includes ALL gubmit vehicles, limos, etc. Those caught driving gas guzzlers will be shot on sight. Double tap for all DemocRATz, elites, H-wood vermin, and journalists.

What’s good for the productive folks is double good for the non-productive ones.

Hate and words are not enough for me anymore but that is all I have at hand.

Lighter huh? More expensive. Not just that but more flammable. We just had an interesting last week. On each of two days on the same 1 mile stretch of small state highway two late model pickups caught fire while driving. The first was a chevy or gmc, not sure which because I did not see it, saw the smoke, and it was burned beyond recognition. Second one, a ford, you could still make out but I saw it. Lots of magnesium and melted aluminum. The truck was all but totally consumed. The driver said he heard a "pop" under the seat then smoke then fire and he pulled over. It all took place in less than 150 yards.

Yeah, I hate these people.
