Ukraine’s fight isn’t merely for its existence as a nation – it’s a battle for the very fabric of the global order.
Yes, it’s about safeguarding European security – a rallying cry heard in countless statements from Western officials, often accompanied by assurances of limited air defence and ammunition – but as Ukraine continues to lose ground, towns, and lives, the West’s response is tepid, with its only firm stance drawn around Nato borders, where geopolitical interests overshadow humanitarian concerns.
But what if Putin dares to cross these lines, dismissing Western threats as mere bluster? What if Ukraine falls, emboldening Putin to pursue further expansion into the other former Soviet Union states that, in his view, belong in the Russian empire? Will Nato truly honour its pledge to collective security, or is that promise nothing but hollow rhetoric?
The fact is, Nato’s resilience is more fragile than we think. And a victory for Putin could see the world’s most successful alliance begin to crumble.

That is history right there. Thanks. I think the Domino Theory might have begun with Korea?
All that with only weeks to live!
Don’t forget army knives and watches. If only they didn’t act so uppity.
Don't forget their army knives!
The Domino Theory applies aptly to World War II. It just wasn’t called that at the time. In fact, it is motivation for the creation of NATO.
I think NATO’s problem is their huge expansion in what I believe is beyond their original charter and purpose. Hello! NORTH ATLANTIC.......
They’ve bombed Syria, Libya and who knows where else (like maybe Bosnia in a war that wasn’t Russia-base, but religion)- all politically inspired by war mongers (e.g., Hillary and Obama, for one). “Leading from Behind” Obama put it. It was just an excuse to put US planes over Libya under a white NATO sheet and hood, IMO. Can anybody say Benghazi? Hillary? Weapons for Syria?
Let Europe defend itself and spend its own money.
Everything bad that happened was because of the French.
WWI, WWII - France’s alliance with Russia, was the main factor in the War expanding. And of course Clemenceau and his Versailles Treaty set the table for WWII.
Vietnam - France’s defeat at Dien Bien Phu.
Iran - France harbored the Ayatollah Khomeini for 15 years.
Europe needs to defend itself...or learn to speak Russian.
This is BS. Putin wanted peace, and it was Ukraine with the help of the west (Boris Johnson) that pulled out of the Istanbul summit. There was no mass build up of troops on the borders. There was no putting the economy on a military footing. Putin wanted one thing, and that was no NATO membership for Ukraine. He didn’t want to roll over NATO and Europe, but now he has to fight them. And what are the Swiss going to do? Send in a division of chocolate tanks?
Something to ponder. Could Sweaterman be working hand in hand with Putty to deplete NATO resources? Could Putty just be claiming ethnic Russian territory and a warm water port in the Black sea while Sweaterman begs for money so he can plunder the spoils knowing he cannot win a war so he has a cash stash to flee when this is over? Look Ukraine is a shithole country because of its politicians and rigged elections. There is no middle class. You have wealthy and those scraping the bottom of the barrel. Ukrainian peasants would screw their mother for the next meal. Such a shame because it is a bueatful landscape but so corrupt. My suggestion is to give me 100 good old USA farmers and the equipment and we could feed all of Europe. Ukraine cannot get out of it’s own way which is the main problem.
Ukraine was our downfall.
Putin asked for a compromise, but we ignored it. Now we’re in a war we can’t win.
The sooner NATO dies, the better. That will pave the way for an American First foreign policy, one focuses on national security and not making our elite rich.
You’re wasting your keyboard. They think Putin woke up one morning and said “Let’s take over the world”. The catalyst was no NATO membership for the Ukraine which has been clearly articulated for years and somebody said “Hey, let’s have another war. There’s money to be made”. The people of Ukraine and Russia suffer and die as a result. But a group of somebodies responsible is getting filthy rich. If the responsible group were sent to hell with a broken back, it would be justice.
“ Will Nato truly honour its pledge to collective security, or is that promise nothing but hollow rhetoric?”
My money’s on hollow rhetoric.
The justification for the NATO aliance largely ended with the dissolution of the old USSR. But bureaucracies created, never die.
Plus, only with the misplaced might of the US, does NATO give Euro nations a faux reason to pretend to strut.
You are quite correct, NATO’s and the western world are devoid of any leadership that has enough sense to come in out of a category 5 hurricane. Whether it be civilian or military western leadership has been outclassed and shown to be inept, incompetent, feckless and corrupt.
We are still fighting a war that ended thirty years ago for no reason other than the military industrial complex needs a war for more $. Between the bumbling idiots in the west, the corruption of the Ukraine and Putin we are at the point where NATO is backing themselves into a corner and will either use nuclear weapons or will not. Either way its lose-lose for NATO and the west, especially the United States. Deterrence which has been the backbone of US defense policy for 70 years will be obliterated and then things really get dangerous.
It’s time to bring in the SOB’s to fix things or it’s going to go south quickly for US around the world.
“ it’s a battle for the very fabric of the global order.”
This is a succinct statement of why I’m backing Russia. The destruction of the “global order” is a precondition for the survival of my nation.
