Goodbye To These Freezers, Refrigerators In New York State

We are almost halfway through 2024 and some new laws and restrictions may soon be on the horizon here in New York State.

Need a new freezer for those freezie pops this summer? How about a new fridge for that cold beer? There may soon be a limit on which models of freezers and refrigerators you can buy.

New York is quickly becoming one of the most aggressive states when it comes to going green or being more environmentally protective. There are constant rumors and worries about whether or not gas appliances will be taken away and a fear about bans on grills. However, the latest "go green" stance is coming from the Federal level and it is in line with New York State's vision.

Within the next five years, the cheaper models of various appliances will be off the market. Fox News Reports:

...the updated standards, which will take less efficient but cheaper models off the market, will in 30 years remove the amount of emissions generated by the combined annual emissions of 12.7 million homes.

I don’t believe you can do all that much to make a refrigerator/freezer much more efficient. Maybe have it be better insulated. A lot would depend on how often you use it - opening the doors on a daily basis.

Bring black market fridges into the state. You can improve your profit margin by filling them with ammo or cigarettes to pedal, as well.

This is all about changing out the refrigerant.

It’s amazing how openly the Democrats will go after the poor now.

“If your AC is out, you can leave the frig door open to cool the house, right?”

For those who don’t know you meant it as a joke, no, the refrigerator simply recirculates heat if the door is left open.

and the compressors will be even smaller, run ALL the time and burn out even sooner, thus requiring the entire unit to be thrown out and a newly manufactured one purchased every five years or so,

Likely made in China.

“Maybe have it be better insulated.”

The point of diminishing returns passed long ago for that aspect of design.

There are work arounds to this perversion.

Of course there are and no doubt they will be used. I wasn’t saying what should happen, but rather what likely will happen. The state frowns on those subjects who dare to defy it. Remember the surfer who was arrested for surfing by himself at a deserted beach during the Wuhan lockdown?

Just keeping the coils clean can do a lot to make the refrigerator run better, but they often are not designed in a way that makes it easy to clean them.
I recently had to replace the water valve on my refrigerator, so cleaned the coils from the back side while I had it pulled out and opened up & was surprised how much more dust & pet hair I was able to remove that way.

Our fridge is from 1999, had to replace the thermostat last year, with regular care and cleaning, will run forever. Not getting new ones with smaller compressors and more sensors and electronics that fail faster. Also, keep your fridge on a surge protector. And any other electronic devices/appliances that are very important to you.

Remember their low flow toilets to save water? Its easier to pee into an empty coffee can and dump it than into some low flow toilets that splatter your stuff back onto you. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

That is what Virginia has done in monitoring their citizens who cross over to DC to buy cheaper liquor. However, where would the NY State Police get the manpower to monitor every appliance dealer in Northern NJ or Fairfield County, CT? Or even cities like Scranton, Pittsfield, or Burlington?

Looks like the old galvanized wood ice boxes are going to be the new trend.
Had an aunt who had on in the early 50’s the ice man delivered once a week.

“Green” policies are another Leftist method to impoverish the middle class while ensuring the rich and connected Leftists have lives of leisure and comfort.

Appliance dealers in the neighboring states will welcome this new regulation, and in state dealers will lose business.

Just as already exists due to high sales taxes where many Vermont residents buy their appliances in New Hampshire.
