“Squad” members Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Cori Bush (D-MO) appeared to confuse Memorial Day — a day to honor fallen American service members — with Veterans Day, a day to honor those who have served.
Omar posted on X from her congressional account:
On #MemorialDay, we honor the heroic men and women who served our country.
We owe them more than our gratitude — they have more than earned access to quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits they were promised.
Bush posted on her congressional X account:
This #MemorialDay & every day, we honor our veterans in St. Louis.
We must invest in universal health care, affordable housing, comprehensive mental health services, and educational & economic opportunities for our veterans as we work to build a world free of war and violence.

There are plenty of folks who don’t know. But, you would think an entity in CONgress might know. Might.
At least they don’t think Guam floats and can flip over.
Or in our country at all.
Unlike that clown 🤡 Hank Johnson.
Obambi did that his first year.
I guess if you miss out on U.S. Civics 101, or you take Civics U.S.S.R. instead, you miss little details like this.
Those see you next tuesdays are upset they couldn’t give a speech in Gaza for their Hamashole heroes.
Are you sure about that?
Tempest in a teapot. Most. Americans don’t allow the difference.
That’s almost as bad as people “Happy Memorial Day”, there’s nothing ‘happy’ about Memorial Day.
This is what ‘lip service’ looks like.
In Jughead’s defense, he’s not an American.
A common mistake among those who neither know nor understand the history of this Nation.
Is this from David Barton’s website?
I’m surprised they even attempted to give lip service in honor of Memorial Day or Veterans Day.
It’s quite clear they hate America and our holidays, traditions and customs that made this country great.
Squawds should stay home and chew buffalo skins.
I don’t know...I copied it from Saturday evening’s FReeper Canteen.
Lots of people, including here on FR, don't know the difference either, even after they are informed in no uncertain terms. Memorial Day commemorates those who have literally died in the service of our country. Period. Full stop.
We veterans (yes, including those who were physically injured and/or emotionally traumatized) have our own day, Veterans Day. Those who are are currently serving have not yet given the ultimate sacrifice or not yet completed their time in honorably serving also have their own day, Armed Forces Day.
I don't wear any of my veterans gear on Memorial Day for this very reason. I honorably served, but I would never compare my sacrifice to those who gave ALL. It is a form of "stolen valor" in my eyes. I believe most veterans feel the same.
Dumb democrats!
