It's no secret that Judge Juan Merchan is a partisan judge who has exhibited prejudicial behavior against Donald Trump in his Manhattan trial, but famed lawyer and law professor Alan Dershowitz had to see for himself. He attended the Trump trial on Monday and was appalled at what he saw.
Dershowitz appeared on Sean Hannity's show on Fox News Monday evening, during which he destroyed Merchan for his conduct during the testimony of Michael Cohen's former lawyer, Bob Costello. It got extremely tense at times, and Merchan even cleared the courtroom before scolding Costello over his alleged violation of decorum.
“I’d like to discuss proper decorum in my courtroom. As a witness in my courtroom, if you don’t like my rulings, you don’t say, ‘Jeez,’” Merchan reportedly told Costello. "You don't give me side eye, and you don't roll your eyes."
While the public was removed for that moment, Dershowitz, who is not involved in the case, was surprisingly allowed to remain.
"I've got to imagine in all the years you practice law, have you ever seen anything like this?" Hannity asked.
"No, I never have," Dershowitz replied. "I sat in the front row, literally just feet away from where all the action occurred. I rolled my eyes when the judge made some rulings that were absurd. Any first-year evidence student would understand that he was making biased rulings in favor of one side."
"I stared him down, but Costello didn't," Dershowitz continued. "He acted like a normal witness, and the judge went berserk. The judge violated Trump's constitutional right to a public trial by kicking the media out of the courtroom. I don't know why I wasn't kicked out, and I heard him lecture Costello…

You are usually spot on so I'm wondering if you mixed up a link?
The entire thing is so juvenile. Stormy acted like a juvenile. The judge is a juvenile and Cohen is a mental case juvenile.
Appeals take time. In the meantime, Trump would be a convicted felon. Not a good situation.
to me, every additional day of this kangaroo kourt confirmed my belief that merchan was being blackmailed ... no other reason, short of actual insanity, could explain such pervasive and consistent judicial misconduct ...
I doubt they’ll try to put him in jail. That would just generate sympathy for him. They are desperate to claim he’s a convicted felon though - no matter what a complete kangaroo court they have to run this through - in order to claim it before it is inevitably overturned on any of a dozen different grounds.
If Trump gets a likely guilty verdict this will obviously be appealed and the appeal will win. Can Merchan require that Trump be jailed while waiting for his appeal to process? I have thought that the goal was to squeeze out a guilty verdict then have Trump immediately in the courtroom handcuffed and jailed.
Well said, nevergiveup!
Merchan grew in Columbia when it was a 3rd world Socialist dump. He came here to get educated and now has the mentality of a 3rd world judge. He must be raking in a pile of dough for his activities which is what he learned in Columbia as a young communist in a 3rd world country. Deport him.
Maybe Merchan will impose house arrest if Trump is found guilty—confine him to Trump Tower except when he has to go somewhere for a court appearance. That would prevent any campaign appearances.
But house arrest would not put him in a place that would encourage his “suicide” that would result from his “depression” at being jailed.
Notice the judge always takes a break at important times. I bet he calls the DOJ to get advise. This trial is being directed by someone who is not in the court room.
