If voters had their way, Donald Trump would pick one of his former 2024 primary rivals to be his running mate.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) are the top two choices among people who gave their preference for whom the 77-year-old Trump should pick to join the GOP ticket this year, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll out Monday.
DeSantis, who ruled himself out of being Trump’s No. 2 in February, was the pick of 12% of all voters surveyed and 23% of self-described Republicans.
The 45-year-old Sunshine Stater was followed in the preference list by Scott (9% of all voters, 12% of Republicans), biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (8%, 13%) and former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (5%, 8%).
Nearly four in 10 respondents wanted Trump to pick “someone else” (11%) or “none of the above” (28%) on the Harvard/Harris list, which also included Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (3%), Sen. JD Vance of Ohio (3%), Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida (3%), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (3%), Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake (2%) and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York (2%).
Trump has teased that he will announce his VP decision shortly before the Republican National Convention, scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee.

No such person exists.
In most cases, if you have heard of the person, they are not qualified since it likely means they have had a political career and are Swamp.
Vivek is an exception. Heard of. No political career.
General Flynn, no political career and has seen the horrors of the Swamp.
All these others are Swamp filth.
Picking Ron DeSantis just tells me people don’t know their constitution.
I like Ben Carson. I do not see him as adequate to the tasks
of a president. He does not exude the temperament needed to
face down foreign leaders.
Trump owns property in Jersey and here in Vegas at the Trump Tower which, no doubt, has a splendid penthouse on the top floor. All he has to do is change his official residence.
It seems possible to get around it. Trump and his team are used to creating unusual solutions. Perhaps Trump could reside in NYC on paper and even score a few political points in the bargain.
But we love our low IQ blacks!
Good runner, too.
DeSantis won't even acknowledge the election was stolen.
DeSantis is a chief exec type. VP would not suit him. He’s my choice for 2028 Presidency. If Trump decides he wants a woman, I think Kim Reynolds, popular Iowa governor is a good VP choice. She’s Kristi Noem without the dog problem
I’m guessing Ben Carson
Carson or Rubio.
Can’t say they’d be my pick for potus, but we’ll battle that in 2028.
Rubio handles this reporterette excellently and looks like he’s running.

Mark Robinson.
Not so. She would have to push Biden and Harris aside. That will be messy. Kamala is prob not interested in stepping down.
I’m just not in to Scott. Probably a fine man but he doesn’t twang my buds especially VP
Trump must pick a bold effective leader who can continue the Trump reform policies as the subsequent President.
DeSantis is the best pick, even though he showed disloyalty.
“DeSantis and Trump both have FL residences.
Trump isn’t going to move, and DeSantis can’t. He’s a No Go.”
So? Just because the constitution says that POTUS and VP nominees can’t be from the same state doesn’t mean they can’t be from the same state, right?
After all, Zero never proved he was a NBC, had a NE SS#, and he was still “elected” prez.
FJB was told by the USSC he couldn’t forgive student debt, and he did anyway.
There is no rule of law anymore.
I hope there are others on his list and these two ride off into the sunset because they both are not at all worthy of VP nod.
