Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott among voters’ top picks for Trump veep: poll
The New York Post ^ | 05/20/2024 | Ryan King

If voters had their way, Donald Trump would pick one of his former 2024 primary rivals to be his running mate.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) are the top two choices among people who gave their preference for whom the 77-year-old Trump should pick to join the GOP ticket this year, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll out Monday.

DeSantis, who ruled himself out of being Trump’s No. 2 in February, was the pick of 12% of all voters surveyed and 23% of self-described Republicans.

The 45-year-old Sunshine Stater was followed in the preference list by Scott (9% of all voters, 12% of Republicans), biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (8%, 13%) and former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (5%, 8%).

Nearly four in 10 respondents wanted Trump to pick “someone else” (11%) or “none of the above” (28%) on the Harvard/Harris list, which also included Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (3%), Sen. JD Vance of Ohio (3%), Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida (3%), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (3%), Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake (2%) and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York (2%).

Trump has teased that he will announce his VP decision shortly before the Republican National Convention, scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee.

Did DeSantis or Trump move out of Florida?

Vivek?! NO WAY!!! That is a choice wherein I would NOT vote for Trump. Same as others say the same for Haley.

Are these the same voters being polled who overwhelmingly rejected DeSantis during the primaries?

Voters’ top picks, maybe. But Ron DeSantis is definitely radioactive and scorched earth. Tim Scott may have an outside chance, yet mysterious references to Douglas Burgum may provide another clue.

DeSantis is a no. The two can’t be from the same state. That’s why Cheney moved from Texas to Wyoming during Bush II’s candidacy.

She says a lot of the right things, but that WEF Young Global Leaders background gives me pause where she is concerned.

The WEF claims any number of "members" merely because they were invited.

Klaus Schwab lies about everything.

I too like Lee Zeldin. I’d be interested to see if he runs in 2028.

Scott is a fine Republican senator for the blacks and other folks of South Carolina, but I don’t see him as having an issue base that meets the broad needs of the nation.

Scott is a contributor and team player, but not clearly a leader.

He'll pick either Vance, Donalds or Tulsi. He'll pick Vivek for something else.

I like Vance or Donalds.

Vivek might be suitable to run DoD, State or HEW.

He needs to prove himself politically under fire before being placed in line for the top job.

“Josh Hawley of Missouri”

VP picks are rarely decisive in Presidential elections, but Trump would be smart to point out that Biden is unlikely to finish a second term (absent a “Weekend at Bernie’s” scenario) so a vote for Biden is really a vote for Kamala Harris. In that event, the comparison with Hawley is starkly obvious.

Both DJT and DeSantis having residence in the same state is not a problem like some think.

Trump can change his state residence with almost a stroke of a pen.....it’s something his attorneys could do in probably an hour if necessary.

So if Trump doesn’t pick DeSantis that won’t be the reason.

Tim Scott is the other half of Lindsey “Wayne Gacey” Graham.

He is an establishment predator, willing to sell his soul to the highest bidder. Scott has no inner core. No way would I trust him as Vice President. The Deep State GloboHomo’s would love Tim Scott.

Tulsi would help the ticket more than anyone l can think of. Women like her. She has been on the wrong side of a number of issues but if Trump loses our country is finished. This is the last chance.

The staff at the NY Post is throwing this out to get hits on their article. You can safely bet that it does not matter what the choices of “people who gave their preference” are-whether they like Tim Scott, Tulsi Gabbard or Vlad Putin himself, that is not how a VP is chosen. And Ron DeSantis is still gov of Florida, as well as living in the same state as pres Trump-neither seem inclined to move-and why should they?

Even if they could be the dream ticket, I doubt the people of Florida want to give up their excellent governor with all the dem-financed issues right now-illegals, liberal loons, etc-it would not make sense, and would really embolden the dems...

Byron Donalds and DeSantis are probably the best choices to carry on the Maga movement.

But my preference and the individual that I think Trump can work best with Is Doug Burgum. I think that ticket is the best option for restoring the economy.
Both are billionaire businessmen - two peas in a pod.

Who succeeds Trump is going to ba a soul searching battle within the GOP no matter who Trump picks as his VP.

Trump should not pick a woman solely to appeal to the female suburban vote. I do like Keri Lake, but I think Trump won’t select her because she has never held office.

“Tulsi”

Think of Tulsi as Al Gore in a dress.

Ambassador to India, but that might tempt him with more treasonous behavior than we’ve already seen from him. Maybe border patrol (not DHS), with marching orders to deport 60 million illegals. Let him prove his loyalty to the US.
