Columbia University failed to bring disruptive anti-Israel protests under control Monday, as hundreds of protesters openly defied the school’s 2 p.m. ultimatum to vacate the campus encampment or face suspension and loss of access to dorms and class buildings.
“We will not back down,” student leaders proclaimed in a statement before the deadline expired.
As the deadline ticked away, hundreds of protesters remained on campus, beating drums and chanting slogans like “free, free, free Palestine” as they marched, beat drums and lounged around the tent city.
Police sources told The Post Monday afternoon that busloads of NYPD officers were standing by if summoned by the university. However, administrators had not asked cops to move in to remove students from the $90,000-per-year campus as it did April 18, during which 108 demonstrators were dragged away in cuffs.
Cops are not allowed on campus without authorization from the university.
In a statement to the student body Monday morning, embattled Columbia president Minouche Shafik made a final plea with student protesters to “voluntarily disperse” from campus, vowing to consider exploring “alternative internal options” to bring the crisis to a close.
[President]Shafik made clear that the protesters’ main demand — that the university divest from all companies that do business with Israel — was off the table.
The school also distributed notices around campus promising students amnesty from punishment if they turn themselves in to officials by the deadline and commit to obeying university policies...
According to the Columbia Spectator newspaper, students slapped with an interim suspension for flouting the deadline will be restricted from using all of Columbia’s “campuses, facilities and property, including all academic, residential and recreational spaces.” Students gather for a rally in support of a protest encampment on campus in support of Palestinians, despite a 2pm deadline.

They know that they won’t get prosecuted.
Bulldozer.
Has Columbia announced the new deadline yet?
University weakness creates a power vacuum and chaos takes over. The administration of the University is at the end of the line, having presided over the death of the institution. If the protestors are not removed, arrested, expelled the university is a clown show.
Those tents crammed so close together looks like quite a violation of Fire Prevention Code. I believe the Fire Marshall has police powers in certain situations. Perhaps the university should find out just when that is and how they can be applied there.
Kent State!
The Left divided us into so many factions that they are now devouring themselves.
Stampeding cattle would make a nice diversion.
Kinky!
“Bulldozer.” Come on! Be reasonable!
1. Hickory shampoos

4. Tear Gas
5. Soylent Green trucks with front-end loaders
6. THEN the bulldozers.
Tent City
I think the organizers planned it this way. They are going to defy the schools, which will give in to them.
After that, the next protest will be violent.
I was going to say fire hoses (they must desperately need a bath by now, anyway), but I like your suggestion better.
Time to roll the D9s.
Carpet bomb with pepper spray. That will clear them out.
Exactly. The Dems have taught them that well.
Perhaps most of these masked protesters aren’t students.
They will make a new red line and a new deadline. This time it’s Serious!!!
