Donald Trump Suffers Huge Vote Against Him in Pennsylvania Primary
Newsweek ^ | 24 April 2024 | Ewan Palmer

Posted on 04/24/2024 8:51:45 AM PDT by zeestephen

Donald Trump suffered a blow in the Pennsylvania primary on Tuesday, as tens of thousands of Republicans refused to vote for him despite being the presumptive GOP nominee...Nikki Haley, who ended her campaign for the White House after Super Tuesday in March, still received 16.5 percent of the vote, equating to more than 155,000 ballots.

Getting 83.5% of the vote is a “huge vote against him”? See Tagline for context.

Once again this points to Haley being chosen as his VP. MAGA will do whatever Trump says. Whatever. Trump just wants to win and that is his best chance.

Predictable.

I knew some media liars would write this last night.

Where in the world did nikki hide, not a peep in months.

Laying low so not to irk people before Trump announces her as VP. Sununu has been doing the public part for them.

I wonder how they define an "Open Primary" in PA?

Do they require proof that you are a registered Republican or Democrat?

I am inclined to doubt that.

Here in Washington state, there is no verification of party status.

Instead, our primary vote is restricted to just one candidate, whose name is listed under just one party.

I am a registered Republican, but Washington state mails the same ballot to every voter.

I voted for Trump, but I could have voted for Joe Biden if I wanted to.

I cannot recall if we had just two political party choices, or more.

"And some of this was early voting/mail-in voting."

Oh thank goodness. They can't possibly cheat with mail-in ballots.

“Trump got over 80% of the vote. A new record for a primary in that state. Spin that anyway you want, but it is a major win for Trump”.
________________________________________________

PA was always going to be a nail biter. Trump could eke out a win by skillfully playing up the fracking / energy issue and possibly overcoming the massive fraud machine in Philly. That being said, Georgia is more troubling.

Georgia is a crucial must-win swing state in 2024, and 15.5% of Georgia Republican voters did not vote for Trump in the GOP primary, even though every other GOP candidate had dropped out of the race. He should have carried 98% of the vote.

I’m no fan of Nikki Haley, but her point was valid when she said Trump now needs to earn the votes of those GOP primary voters who have not supported him to date. I’m not sure he can do that in Georgia.

Brian Kemp won a tough gubernatorial race in 2022 going away. It would be ideal for Trump to ally himself with Kemp’s machine in Georgia, but instead he attempted to take Kemp out in the 2022 primary by running Perdue against him.

Trump has his MAGA base in Georgia, but there are also a significant number of Republicans and Independents who have no use for him. It remains to be seen if those voters can stomach voting for the corrupt and feeble Biden in November. If Trump were wise, he would act now to make peace with Kemp.

It is a closed primary. These are republicans voting against him. Hopefully, they will get it out of their system before November.

Even though Haley suspended her campaign in early March, her name was still on the ballots in PA. There was plenty of time to print ballots without Haley’s name on it, but nobody put in the work to do it, probably for just this reason.

(meanwhile Dean Phillips getting nearly 7% of the votes despite nobody knowing who he is doesn’t get even a small mention)

If that doesn’t give you a hint of the upward battle Trump is going to face trying to win PA, nothing will.

I will be glad to spin it. Trump also got many primary records in 2020 and it did not matter in the long run. Penn is a closed state and that is a significant protest vote against him. It will be very very close in Penn.

The problem will be getting the Never Trumpers and RINOs to vote for Trump. If they care anything about this Country they must hold their noses and vote for him. How many times have we done the same for their candidates. If Biden wins another term this country is finished. They will certainly get a Supreme Court majority. There goes the 1st and 2nd amendments. Hello Green New deal.

Re: "Newsweek - EXACTLY the same headline about Trump in the Florida primary two months ago."

LOL - while I was searching Free Republic to prevent a double post, I discovered the Newsweek headline for the New Hampshire primary - two weeks ago - which was also EXACTLY the same!

The Fire Statyion in York that I go to to vote, was empty at 9;30a, yesterday, and the workers there said that was “normal” for these elections. I sure hope they got busy later on...

Care to explain why you omitted this:

The former president won the primary race in the key swing state with 83.5 percent of the vote, amounting to more than 786,000 votes.

Aside from the hyperbole here, the real problem is Nikki Haley pulling in about the same percentages as Ross Perot did. That should concern us all.

Re: "It will be very very close in Penn."

Agree...

At least 125% of Black voters will turn out for Joe Biden!

Biden received 140,000 more voted than Trump yesterday.
Trump had better figure out how to win the Haley voters, or he’s toast.
