House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) made history by relying on minority party votes to advance a foreign aid plan, marking a first in recorded history. This decision, occurring just before midnight on Thursday, has sparked controversy among Republicans, with some questioning Johnson's loyalty to the party. The move has raised concerns about party unity and the potential implications for future legislative decisions.

I think things like this will finish it off. What is the point in them? Apart from a handful of good guys/gals in Congress and honorable exceptions.
Democrat sides with Democrats. Not unusual in the Democrat-controlled House.
I hope he got his 10%, cuz either this deeep state troll is finished or we are.
They should vacate the chair and let the Democrats either save him or take over.
Conservative Republicans comprise no more than 10%-15% of the House. And even some of those are pontificating phonies. I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised at how things have played out in 2023-24.
Ever hear the phrase “Hold my Johnson”.
It applies here with Mike Johnson. Because that is what he is is, a total fish wrapped Johnson. /spit
I don’t know why the partisan makeup of the House has even come into the discussion. If George W. Bush was president and the GOP had sizable majorities in both the House and Senate, this stupid $95 billion foreign/corporate welfare package would have passed without even making headlines.
Yes it’s an old one but a good one here.
I’d put Conservative in quotes. The New Gang of Eight doesn’t really know what Conservative means. It is not a suicide pact.
I don’t even know who this “Gang of Eight” is.
SPEND and tax. DEBT nation without representation. Citizens in this gangsters paradise are subjects of the elitist mini kings and queens in CONgre$$.
Traitor!
The parties are just two cheeks on the same a$$
Few exceptions on the R side - very few.
This is a Republican spending bill.
If you let the Democrats take over, conservatives will never ever be in power again. All future elections will be rigged so that only Dems and GOPe will hold office, SCOTUS will be packed and we will have at least new states with 2 Dem senators.
I am not the biggest fan of this speaker but if you vacate the chair, you are one "surprise" mid summer resignation away from speaker Jeffries. If we get speaker Jeffries then we have lost and there will be no way we can come back. At least with Johnson there is a chance conservatives can turn around the country. The same would have applied to McCarthy.
Again, the American conservative people get screwed by Republicans. When will there ever be a conservative party in the US? Maybe it’s time the states succeeded and became independent of Washington DC.
Been hearing that hogwash for the better part of my 30+ years voting. 30+ years of voting straight (R) because they are somehow better than the (D). I’m done. Trump will be the last (R) I’ll ever vote for, and the only one this year getting my vote. You can keep the grand old party of sniveling, feckless, spineless cowards and assistant Democrats.
Republicans are just socialists with a relaxed timeline.
You know, the truth is that the Republican Party is not a conservative party. It never really was.
Republicans picked up votes by talking conservative but not actually being conservative.
Conservatives can’t really do well in the GOP and the proof is what you see.
The GOP will destroy conservatives and also MAGA.
Johnson is wimpish, soft-spoken, weasel of a traitor!
The Repubblicrats are by and large Junior Democrats. With a few good ones, they have lost sight of their oath.
