Global warming has slightly slowed the Earth’s rotation — and it could affect how we measure time.
A study published Wednesday found that the melting of polar ice — an accelerating trend driven primarily by human-caused climate change — has caused the Earth to spin less quickly than it would otherwise.

Two articles before this, an article claiming we’re going to have to subtract a second because the earth is speeding up. Believe the science! ???

Poor kids cant even get their story straight. Just above this is a story from CBS that the Earth is spinning faster and they might need to implement a negative leap second.

Oh no. This is just more evidence that we only have a few years left to convert to electric vehicles, or we are all going to die. The planet is teetering on its last leg. Come on unbeliever, get your mind right.
Someone will have to show me the physics on this. Melting ice still maintains the same mass, and therefore the same angular momentum. The Earth’s rotational velocity should not be affected.
What is the mechanism for slowing or accelerating rotation?
Global warming and climate change also increase snowshoe accidents and cause excessive ear wax formation. (heavy sarcasm)

Reality: The rotation of the Earth speeds up and slows down by small amounts all the time. This is not a new discovery or in any way disputed.
Isn’t there a CBS story about three threads up that says just the opposite? So, CC is making the earth spin faster at CBS and slower at NBC. I guess we need to wait for ABC to break the tie.
