Trump says abortion should be decided by the states, 'will of the people'

Former President Donald Trump on Monday announced his position on whether abortion should be banned, following months of not taking a stance on the combustible and crucial issue in his 2024 rematch with President Biden.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee took to his social media platform on Sunday night to say that he would issue a statement on "abortion and abortion rights." In video posted Monday morning, Trump explicitly affirmed his support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and he emphasized his support for states determining their own laws for abortion so long as there are exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.

"The states will determine by vote, or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land – in this case, the law of the state," Trump said. Many states will be different.

They can rig state elections just like they do national elections.

The decision is with the People of the states...Always has been...until the Supreme Court errored and let Roe v Wade slide.

Correct. He is stating the law of the land. That was the SC’s ruling in the Dobb’s decision. If he sticks with that, he will have a good argument with the electorate.

Up until the 1860’s, slavery was left up to each state to decide. That didn’t work out well either...

They want it back where it was so we can pay for it, bottom line. If you choose to kill your baby it is on you and you will be judged come that day

I’d be 100% in favor of a national abortion ban, but I also know this would require a constitutional amendment. The 14th Amendment includes the word “born” in establishing the rights of citizens.

This is a good compromise, but I truly don’t believe that any person’s life should depend upon the vote of a majority.

One thing this does is take away the democrats biggest campaign issues for this election. “Donald Trump and republicans want to ban abortion”.

Correct. A national ban on abortion or that legalizes abortion would seem to be of questionable legality. The best nationwide way to deal with abortion is a Constitutional Amendment.

This was exactly the argument used to overturn Roe v Wade.

Of course there were other variables, yet Wisconsin’s was an expensive
mayoral race where the Dems did not stint on resources.....but still lost.
<><>Democrats spent $40 per vote, 2x what the GOP spent,
<><>free-spending Dems lost which is very telling in political circles.
<><>2020 Biden spent $15 per vote there.

The iceberg lying just below the surface - abortion - seems not to have been the clincher loser Wisconsin Democrats were counting on to beat the pro-life Republican.(Zhang Fei provided details)

It is not a federal matter but a state right. Science says a human life begins at conception.

Ah, the Constitutional approach.

Something this current administration doesn’t get.

There are many grifters in the pro-life movement who never wanted Roe to end. They are being exposed.

The fact that a majority of women support killing the unorn is a failure and great stain on the American church. I would suggest to those trying to change laws..you have to change hearts first.

Trump is 100% correct.

Then you get into how the liberals don’t believe an unborn baby is a human life.

He is stating the obvious, as the court and the constitution rule. He needs to make a statement, he needs to confront the issue loud and clear and often.

The Dems have only a few issues, and honestly they are all ridiculous...abortion rights, January 6th over and over, well, I can’t think of anything else, maybe “climate change” whatever that means.
