A massive container ship lost power in the waters around New York City and was brought to a rest near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge Friday night — less than two weeks after failure on another massive cargo vessel caused it to smash into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The US Coast Guard confirmed that its Vessel Traffic Service received a report that the 89,000-ton M/V Qingdao lost propulsion about 8:30 p.m. as it traversed Kill Van Kull waterway — the shipping lane between Staten Island and Bayonne, New Jersey.
An image shared on X by John Konrad, CEO of maritime-focused news outlet gCaptain, shows the 1,100-foot Qingdao floating uncomfortably close to the span that connects Brooklyn and Staten Island.
In response to the power failure, three tug boats were dispatched to bring the Qingdao under control.
The vessel was reportedly positioned “just north” of the bridge.
“Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service New York received a report from the M/V Qingdao around 8:30pm, Saturday, that the vessel had experienced a loss of propulsion in the Kill Van Kull waterway,” a Coast Guard spokesperson told The Post in a statement Sunday.
“The vessel regained propulsion and was assisted to Stapleton Anchorage by tugs.”

So. Somebody has figured out the Stuxnet-like hack to disable and control propulsion systems like the CIA did for the Iranian centrifuges Iran was using to enrich uranium.

It cannot be all that frequent or the insurers would hike rates.

The Verrazano Narrows Bridge support towers are surrounded by earthen barriers around each tower.
An event like in Baltimore does look not physically possible.

There have been too many coincidences. The last month, there have been almost daily incidents with American passenger planes. Now we have several “out of control” cargo ships in the last month. I suspect anti-American sabotage. There have been multiple “incidents” in just the last 4 weeks. We are also involved in several war fronts and situations that involve China, Iran, Russia and South America (the Chinese have footholds in 5 S. American countries). Any one of these players would like to see industries in the US fold and our economy worse than it already is. Making people afraid to fly and wrecking bridges doesn’t help.

FYI, The Qingdao is registered in Malta and owned by French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM. I'm pretty sure you know this, SeekAndFind, but for others, registration, flag, ownership, captain, crew, etc. is completely immaterial.
There was an interesting article in the WSJ several years ago about what happens when stow-aways are found. It's a real headache for the Captain, because he's most likely going to call on several countries, and doesn't want to convert a berth into a brig. Generally, they tie them to a pallet and cast them overboard. In a few cases, they use the bound stowaways for target practice. It's just too difficult to figure out who has jurisdiction.

the first one is happenstance, if you’re going by the “Goldfinger” James Bond novel.

I hear the Chelan ninja gang can short circuit the security system in a house in order to burglarize it…with that thought, what are the chances the Chinese invader spies who gingerly and wonderfully waltz crossed our border have such devices to completely short circuit off a ship’s controls. Our government is lying to us. We are literally being under attack by the Chinese government and our effing government is lying to us …. Extremely scary that this is only the beginning. Wait until they get into our water system and our electrical grids! When this happens, the people should frog march all of FJB administration, and that piece of chit dementia OLD POS and line them all up against the wall.

Nothing suspicious here...
Only baseline paranoids, like me, would add this to the fires, food-processing losses, chemical plant losses, disintegration of airplanes, open borders, government-supported looting, and government-supported murders, rapes and child molestations and and start singing that “something’s going on”...

Once is an incident, twice is a coincidence, three times is an enemy action. Actually, all it took on 9/11 was twice for us to know that it was deliberate and terrorism.

Probably a conspiracy by the tug companies to expand their job list to all marine traffic over a certain size.

"The Verrazano Narrows Bridge support towers are surrounded by earthen barriers around each tower."
They don't look that impressive, especially against an aircraft-carrier-size container ship:

The equipment to unleash a digital attack on the power systems could be hidden in any one of the thousand intermodal containers along with a GPS sync to cause the “failure” when adjacent to other critical infrastructure.

I’ll bet they’ve got “students” and newcomers of military age in every port, and near most military installations. These days. even a team of tweeker shoplifters have better comms than the military did in WW2. We are so screwed.
