A Department of Transportation component slammed the brakes following semi-furious opposition to its proposal for "on demand" law enforcement surveillance of commercial vehicles a year and a half ago.
It took another six months to turn over the records after a FOIA lawsuit to compel their release, a day before they were due in court Thursday, with no indication yet from FMCSA when it would release a final rule.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration had internal conversations about those public comments over several months, including via personal email, at the same time it was stalling a Freedom of Information Act request for its communications about the "constitutional implications" of the electronic-tracking advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM).
What can the public learn from the nearly 500 pages? Almost nothing.
FMCSA blanked out all but 30 pages under the FOIA exemption for "deliberative process privilege," a redaction notation that appears more than 500 times in the production to the Bader Family Foundation, more than 30 of those paired with the notation "attorney-client privileged."

This is what the DoT is doing instead of leading the effort to re-open the Port of Baltimore. No wonder Buttplug has no idea when.
A handful of such attacks using commercial trucking would shut down the country, paralyze the economy, and impede the harvesting, processing, and delivery of food. And with our open borders policies under Biden and the Democrats, there can be little doubt that enough potential terrorists are on the loose in the country to carry off such attacks.
You could be right, but after I read the article I took it as the Feds wanting complete control over the trucking industry.
The speculation is the new rule would require all trucks involved in interstate shipping to install electronic monitoring devices in order for the Feds to track in real time exactly where all trucks in America are located and what they were doing.
Ask yourself, why would the Feds want to know in real time where all the truckers are and where they are heading.
Look at the situation in Canada and what’s going on over in Europe, I think the Feds want to know in advance of any truckers congregating or moving into a particular location to know if potential protests that could be on the way for whatever crap the Feds are up to.
That too, I am sure.
In order to restrict the movement of people, you first need to know where they are, whatever the reason why the Feds want this new rule, we both know, it’s for some reason besides what they tell people while establishing more control over the people.
It’s the DRIVERS in the industry who are the strongest opponents to these surveillance measures.
“Feds wanting complete control over the trucking industry.”
A trucker strike or boycott could bring this country to its knees faster than a military attack. No food shipments into the cities and all hell would break out.
Most truckers are very independent... and are Trump supporters.
bttt
Unfortunately the word “commercial” legally opens your file cabinets to authorities. Been this way since 9-11.
I’m just throwing out ideas.
I ask myself, why would the government want real time monitoring of where truckers are and where are they heading.
There has to be a reason why they want this type of control.
If truckers did go on strike and shut down the economy, by knowing where all the truckers are, would it be a crazy idea for the government to nationalize the trucking industry, confiscate the trucks for the “national good” and attempt to run the trucking industry from Washington.
I’m open to any and all crazy ideas because you can be assured the government wanting this type of control over trucking is not good.
Butt, Biden, Davis etc have already announced their intent for “smart” roads so that government and elites know where everyone is at all times and can stop them with a button press.
Doubly, they’ve seen what happened with European farmers and have no intent of letting us do likewise.
Any alleged benign interest from this crew is a lie. They’re hardly pretending when their whole document is redacted. Don’t make up fantasies where there’s some good reason the government that knows of but never stops active shooters needs to know who’s driving every head of lettuce and where every semi is in real-time.
Don’t throw out ideas when the WEF and others tell you exactly what dystopia they plan and then start doing what they said. You’re right, but not because you’re guessing or I said so, but because they said so.
“Most truckers are very independent... and are Trump supporters.”
Unfortunately not anymore... 2 out of 5 maybe. The majority are now not even U.S. citizens. So many that there is a whole third party industry of “interpreters by phone” provided by companies so that you can call an interpreter to help make agreements and transactions for service, repairs, and Etc.
India, middle east, Somolia, Mexico...
“I ask myself, why would the government want real time monitoring of where truckers are and where are they heading.

They have already been practicing this type of control under the guise of “Safety” and enforcing Hours OF Service with real time electronic logs and tracking.
They are just going to use this same information they are already gathering for other monitoring reasons now. They have purposely created a monster by allowing so many foreigners to enter the industry now that monster needs to be monitored because it cannot be trusted.
As it is, most of us carry a personal tracking device at almost all times — our cell phone. I think that tracking large commercial trucks is for reasons of security and will end up being extended to all other vehicles. And yes, the system of tracking will end up being abused.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t most truckers NOT democrat?
I do not know the trucking industry but I am confident that you are correct.
I don’t think the WEF is in control of everything, I think they are like the Board of Directors, gathering the management together once a year in Davos to go over all the great schemes for moving toward the great reset, one world government, etc.
Gather all the major government and business world leaders together at one place, once a year to figure it all out.
Obviously, the trucking industry is a major industry that is key to keeping the economy from crashing.
By knowing where Trucks are located in real time 24/7 is not the end goal, it’s a means to an end.
Is the end goal to cut off trucking parts of the country not going along with the agenda, is the goal to nationalize the industry, I’m interested in what the day-to-day goal is.
