President Joe Biden praised Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Friday for his speech Thursday in which he demanded new elections in Israel to replace Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the war.
Biden answered a reporter’s question about the speech as he hosted Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the White House.
He said: “Senate Schumer contacted my staff, my senior staff, that he was going to make that speech, and he, I am not going to elaborate on the speech. He made a good speech. And I think he expressed a serious concern, shared not only by him, but by many Americans.”

You could tailor your statement. “Hate” is a much stronger word than simply viewing someone as “unfavorable”, and even that latter category is 61% according to the poll, so no need to exclude almost 40% from being considered “American Jews”. Most folks can slip into hyperbole and absolutes sometimes and today it was just your turn.

According to Wikipedia, Schumer’s ancestors originated from the town of Chortkiv, Galicia, in what is now western Ukraine, but was once part of Poland. In order to appease Muslims and get their votes, get a prominent Jewish ally with a record of supporting Israel to criticize Netanyahu, set Netanyahu up as a scapegoat, and say things much more stridently than you would do yourself - then, if there is too much of a backlash among Jews, you can distance yourself a little…
Historically, some Jews, in order to get the protection of the rulers, would do tasks that were unpopular among the people, such as tax collection. And then the King could sort of stand aside and avoid angry outbursts against himself. Schumer is doing the same thing, to protect Biden - placate the Muslims and at the same time shield him from Jewish anger.
