BILLINGS — A Montana Army National Guard recruitment poster is being taken down statewide after an editing mistake was pointed out on social media.
The poster reads: "It’s more than college money….It’s the spirit of tradition." But in the background, images of German Nazi World War II soldiers are prominent, which sparked outrage online.
"I’m sure that somewhere, the (Public Affairs) office for the National Guard is squirming, to say the least,” said Randy Stiles, a district commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Billings, on Friday.
Last fall, the poster was distributed across Montana.
"I can see their idea about tradition through the decades. Well, never at any point has the National Guard supported the Nazi party, or Germany for that matter,” Stiles said. "More than likely, it was like, ‘Hey, the National Guard wants us to do this. We’re an ad agency.’ So they went over, they got some Adobe stock. ‘Oh that’s cool looking, I’ll put that down.’ Well, the person probably doing it was probably an assistant of an assistant of an assistant. And, well, really didn’t know our history."

Dead chickens and Nazis...
Whats up with the state of Montana ???
They really are trying to increase white male recruits…
It could be sabotage. They may have hired an outside graphic arts organization. We’ll see,
Did nobody ask the National Guard if the posters were good before doing anything else?
The Nazi thing makes no sense. The bonehead that put this together probably has 0 knowledge in history and didn’t know what a Nazi helmet looked like.
Honest mistake probably.
Woops-
Not the first time though. The US Army embarrassed itself in Iraq using the image of an unarmed Iraqi traffic cop in poster that was intended to deter criminals from destroying infrastructure (specifically they were cutting copper lines).
It’s just ignorance.
At least they weren’t SS, so there’s that.
Historical ignorance on display. Betcha the poster designer was a publik skool graduate.

Agree, this is EXACTLY how the Left operates - conservative organizations (and candidates) trust them to do the ‘creative’ work, and being gay, they’re the best at that - but that doesn’t mean they won’t shoot you in the back.
Those collars look black, not feldgrau (army). Since the shot is from the rear and the left arms are partially covered, we can't see whether there is the armvogel (eagle on the left sleeve, indicates SS) or none. But with the black collars, it is likely they are SS.
Montana Marijuana Laws in 2024
HB 701 legalized recreational cannabis in the state and made provisions for dispensaries to commence the sale of marijuana products for adults aged 21 years or older. Under this law, Montana adults legally started cultivating marijuana at home beginning July 1, 2023.
I have a theory..
Woke liberal said I know what will get those racist cisgender white guys to join up
This can’t be a careless mistake. Someone had to design and someone had to proof it.
Dude, I was 81E Illustrator (graphic arts specialist) for the Army so can verify we all wore condoms while didn't ask and didn't tell. LOL
Seriously though, I went that MOS when they stopped my sniper training mid-through on eyesight. Today's candidates have Lasik but I had to settle or leave. All good - should have stayed for the 20 but didn't.
Hysterical!!!
“ Whoever made the poster … what a maroon Lol !!!”
He probably missed history class on the day they covered WWII, but I bet he has really high scores in “HALO”!
No it was not funny. Some of those guys were so buff it really hurt. Gym rats. Good thing we had Break-Free handy.
I blame the PASGT helmet.
