Supreme Court justices indicate they’ll keep Trump on 2024 ballot in landmark case

WASHINGTON — A clear majority of the Supreme Court’s nine justices signaled Thursday that they would overturn a Colorado ruling barring former President Donald Trump from the state’s Republican presidential primary ballot.

The former president, 77, and his lawyers were appealing the Dec. 19 decision by Colorado’s Supreme Court that found Trump ineligible for the March 5 Republican contest by virtue of violating the Constitution’s so-called “Insurrection Clause” during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Trump’s team argued separately that Congress — not the states — was tasked with enforcing the clause, that the provision did not apply to the office of president, and denied that the 45th president engaged in an insurrection by seeking to remain in office after his 2020 election defeat by Joe Biden.

During oral arguments, Chief Justice John Roberts fretted about the possibility that upholding the Colorado ruling would open the door to red and blue states removing politicians of opposing parties from the ballot on a whim.

“It’ll come down to just a handful of states that are going to decide the presidential election. That’s a pretty daunting consequence,” Roberts said.

Do not want 9-0, that will be a procedural decision worded to keep Trump on the ballot everywhere but tossing taking Office once Trump has won to Congress.

The problem there is the marxists will go all-in on stealing the House, applying their outrageous 2018 Kalifornia steal nationwide.

This would satisfy Roberts to no end, who pretends to 'steer a middle course' but enjoys the deep division between Americans and marxists, because without it he would have to act like a goddamn judge instead of a 'seer'.

Instead you want Sorosmayor as a holdout so Kagan and DEI make it 6-3. That gives Alito latitude to quash Colorado outright but also make inroads into Jack Smith's calumny.

There was no decision today, but it’s interesting to me that so many outlets are reporting that the supremes will overturn the Colorado decision to keep PDJT off the ballot... when the supremes haven’t even ruled yet, and won’t until summer.

The fact that this decision was announced before it has even been decided has me wondering what is up?

Maybe. I mean, we’ve had a few other unanimous decisions in the past decade.

I guess SCOTUS didn’t buy the RATs’ argument of “because Trump is a poopy head”.

I assume it will be rapid, for SCOTUS. Time is of the essence given ballots need to be printed etc.

It won’t be 9-0; most likely 8-1 (Sotomayer); or 7-2(Jackson & Sotomayer); or 6-3 (Kagan, Jackson & Sotomayer). If it ends up being 5-4, I guarantee you that Robert’s joined the liberals. There’s no chance of Thomas, Alito or Gorsuch upholding Colorado. I’d guarantee you that Kavanaugh & Coney Barret won’t vote to uphold Colorado either. John Roberts, I’d almost guarantee you won’t uphold Colorado because of what his legacy would be if he did. He would be blamed for the country descend into chaos by throwing an opposition candidate off ballots & the retaliation that would ensue. I think a majority on the court know that they have to make an adult decision about this.

Some like Trump, some hate Trump & some have mixed emotions- but everybody knows what the result would be if this were to be upheld. I’m normally a very stoic, reserved & level-headed person. If they tried upholding something that EVERYBODY knows is completely political & constitutionally abusive, that wold be realllllly bad. It would be the point that would spur me into a form of Anger I’ve never known. It would signal the end of this constitutional republic, that they are legally condoning persecution of American citizens & their mainstream philosophy & that we are formally & officially under seige & that they are a threat to our liberty. It wouldn’t be just a disagreement of political philosophies or policies positions or moral stances anymore. It would essentially be their declaration of war 😑

I understood that they were actually going to rule today, due to the emergency nature of the case (it is primary season, and more states might do the same). I know that is very rare, but the nature of the issue would seem to require it.

Does anybody know when the decision will be revealed. Surely they won’t wait until the middle of June.

They hinted they won’t wait that long.

You walked into that one…

Here is something no one is talking about: If upheld, How much faster would that accelerate Texas secession, along with other joining states?

I’d say PDQ.

One would think Plan B for the demons is to charge Trump with Insurrection to see if it could stick.

Just heard on TV:

That’s very thoughtful.

Trump’s team argued separately that Congress — not the states — was tasked with enforcing the clause, that the provision did not apply to the office of president, and that the 45th president did not engage in an insurrection when hundreds of his allies stormed the Capitol and disrupted the certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

Right on all three points.

Funny one.

Joke.
A woman died and went to question St.Peter at the Pearly Gates. “Please, I want to find my husband.” “Who is he, we have lots of people up here, madam.” “I’ve got to find him to reunite with him. We said we’d be true to each other and never stray in our marriage. And I’ve been a chaste woman after he passed away.”
St.Peter: “Madam, please tell me his name and I’ll look up his record.”
Woman: “John Smith.”
St.Peter: “We have a huge number of John Smiths.”
Woman: “From California.”
St.Peter: “Sorry, still so many John Smiths.”
Woman (in tears): “You’ve got to find him. I was always true to him and chaste. He said before he died he would turn over in his grave if I ever strayed from that vow even once.”
St.Peter: “Oh! (laughing) I can help you right now. Everybody up here knows Whirling John Smith.”
