Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis let it be known Monday that he won’t support legislation in the Sunshine State that would put taxpayers on the hook for former President Donald Trump’s legal bills.
In response to a Politico report noting that “some Florida Republicans” are backing a measure that could grant as much as $5 million to the 77-year-old GOP presidential primary front-runner, DeSantis tweeted: “But not the Florida Republican who wields the veto pen…”
The proposal, filed by state Sen. Ileana Garcia (R-Miami), would set aside state funds for legal fees incurred as a result of criminal charges brought by a “US public entity” on “qualified persons” who have been “subject to political discrimination.”
Trump isn’t named in the bill text, but to qualify for the money, individuals must meet “presidential eligibility requirements” and be Florida residents – both criteria that Trump meets.

Put it up for a vote DeSank
True but the proposal to set aside public funds was made by a member of the Fl legistature. DeSamtis was responding to the person making the proposal, not to Trump.
And he's right.
100% right. Some things are about principles not personalities.
He could have personally responded to that one person instead of being a putz about it.
He could have just told the guy Trump pays his own legal bills.
Maybe Trump should sue for damages due to judicial misconduct.
Fulton County GA would be bankrupt!
Yet, desantis had Florida spend up to $19 million to fly around 700 people, many not floridians, out of Israel as a p.r. stunt for his presidential campaign
I’ve read that the legal bills are up to a million dollars a day.
Prosecutors can engage in prosecutorial misconduct in four different ways:
Offering evidence they know to be false or inadmissible (including encouraging witnesses to lie on the stand)
Keeping exculpatory evidence (that could help clear the defendant of the charges) hidden from the defense
Using improper arguments
Discriminating in selecting a jury
Ron DeSantis has handled this poorly, showing clearly that he woll not campaign for Donald Trump.
If the legislature wants to pass the bill, Ron should just sit down and “chut up.”
Is DeSanctus stuck on stupid, or what?
LAwfare is actually a violation of civil rights of President Trump. The FLorida Legisatuire os right to want to do battle with it.DeSanctus again, does not get it.
What principles are there for desantis to spend $19 million to fly 700 people from Israel, many not Floridians, as a p.r. stunt...
And spend unknown amount supposedly sending weapons and body armor to an unknown group in Israel, that was not asked for by the Israeli government?
Crazy isn’t it all. Thanks for posting truth. It’s hard trying do even here these days.
Ron comtinues to show just why people don’t like him. He didn’t have to say anything and he sure as hell didn’t have to tweet about it. Another unforced error in a series of them.
Isn't that what he did?
Oh, give it a rest. Do you or do you not think the taxpayers should pay politicians’ legal fees?
Well, he IS the Governor of the state and this DOES involve state funds. So yeah, he kinds has every right and responsibilty to comment on the matter.
Judges have immunity from lawsuits for “misconduct “ and if they didn’t the left would be filing frivolous lawsuits against Thomas and Alito every day.
It looks like the desantis supporters/nevertrumpers are going to remain bitter, grudge holding poster working to make Trump look bad and get biden or what ever leftist the dems run, elected...
I guess they will go from having supported desantis, straight to nevertrumping, since they likely won’t have a chance to claim they now support haley after the NH prinary.
No, he had to get public about it. I don’t think anyone should pay Trump’s legal bills either.
But this public way of saying no makes it look like Trump was wanting that.
Ron kept his Florida job and he needs to go back to doing what he was doing and drop the sour.
