Philosophy student guilty of murder after running over fiancé in car
The Guardian ^ | Jan 2 | Robyn Vinter

A philosophy student has been found guilty of murdering her boyfriend when she “lost her temper” and drunkenly ran over him with her car, dragging him underneath.

Alice Wood, 23, used her Ford Fiesta as a weapon when she hit partner, Ryan Watson, 24, near the home they shared in Rode Heath, Cheshire, at about 11.30pm on 6 May 2022.

Wood, who had just received a scholarship for a master’s at Cambridge, denied murder and an alternative count of manslaughter as she claimed her boyfriend’s death was a “tragic accident”.

She told her trial at Chester crown court she did not realise he was trapped underneath her car when she drove 158 metres up a road after an argument.

Judge Michael Leeming told her she “may never be released” as he further remanded her in custody. Wood stared downwards as she left the dock.

Mine would begin to vibrate at 120 km per hour (about 75 MPH). 158 is about 97 mph.

I think you misread the quote.

She told her trial at Chester crown court she did not realise he was trapped underneath her car when she drove 158 metres up a road after an argument.
She didn't drag him at 158 km/h, she dragged him 158 meters, or about 500 feet, at an undisclosed speed.

I had a Ford Fiesta back in the 80s. It was a great little car, put over 30K miles on it in one year and never had a problem. Little peppy four-cylinder front wheel drive. And I once loaded eight passengers into it.

You would think she would be more stoic about it.

Just a thought.

Engineers are fascinated by how things work, so they go into engineering.

Doctors are fascinated by the human body.
Physicists are fascinated the universe.
Math, Chemists, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Software, Biology, Agriculture - they are all drawn to their interests.

Those going into Philosophy and Psychology generally realize something is inherently wrong with themselves, and then try to understand how to unscrew themselves.

Not a hard and fast rule - but it explains a lot of what you see in college.

Need more complete photos to determine guilt or innocence.

But, since it’s Britain she’ll just get probation anyhow.

Moron ruined two lives. Perhaps she will become a philosophy professor in prison.

Obviously an unresolved philosophical issue turned violent.

Definitely not regarding the meaning of Thou in Martin Buber’s seminal work.

She’ll have time to sort things out.

She got a might purdy mouth though.

Good one.
