Christmas nightmare: Frontier flies unaccompanied Tampa Bay minor to Puerto Rico instead of Cleveland

PARRISH, Fla. (WFLA) —It was a nightmare before Christmas for Parrish parents after their son was flown 1,200 miles south to Puerto Rico instead of 1,000 miles north to Cleveland.

Logan Lose, 16, waved goodbye to his family last Friday at Tampa International Airport and headed to his flight to visit his mom for the holidays. When he got to the gate, he saw other passengers boarding and got in line.

His father, Ryan said the Frontier Airlines boarding agent checked his son’s baggage, looked at his boarding pass on his phone and told him he could get on the jet.

“Logan said they didn’t scan it,” Ryan Lose said. “They would’ve known it was the wrong flight if they scanned the boarding pass.”

After landing in Puerto Rico, Lose texted his family in a panic.

“Help me please,” he said. “I’m so scared. They told me it was Ohio.”

“My first reaction was panic,” his father said. “He’s panicking, he’s scared, and I can’t be there to keep him safe.”

The comedian flight attendants at Southwest sometimes announce that they’re going to the wrong destination to see if anyone is paying attention.

Indeed. I used to cross a busy 4 lane street (at an uncontrolled intersection), ride the city bus 3 miles, and walk another 2 blocks to my school, at 6 years old.

At 16 I would have had a blast in Puerto Rico on my own. At least until I was sent home again...

However, the feminization of our culture combined with the “Safety at ALL Costs” credo has turned SO MANY of our young men into simpering purse string clinging little wusses

On one flight to Las Vegas in December during a rare snowstorm in Victoria, after the doors were sealed and the plane was heading to the ramp, the onboard announcements started with “Welcome to WestJet flight # 666 to Winnipeg.”

They would’ve known it was the wrong flight if they scanned the boarding pass.

We show up and we have to work too?.

I got on the wrong plane one time and only discovered my error when somebody else claimed “my” seat. If no one had been assigned that seat I would have flown to the wrong destination. Ooops.

I got separated from my parents in the middle of Customs at La Guardia (or JFK, can’t remember) coming back from Russia when I was 14 with a bottle of Vodka sticking out of a bag. My only worry was the liquor might be confiscated from a minor. No biggie. Of course, that was back in the day.

People seem so backward these days.

Was this his first flight? By that age I’d long since learned to read the monitors and find a gate. Although they don’t do all the gate switching they do now.

On the other hand, Frontier has always been a crappy airline (only place I’ve disputed a charge for tickets - the credit card company did refund me.)

I might fly with them if the only option was Greyhound.

And how about now?

That service does not necessarily include not letting a tsa pass. You switch airlines if so.

I hope he didn’t drink the water?

Come on. It's not like they sent him to some third world run ****hole like Flint, Michigan or Jackson, Mississippi.

I see a Richard Pryor joke here.

If I was 16 and I was sent to visit family members in Cleveland, I’d get on the wrong flight, too.

The kid is lucky that he was able to board a flight to escape to Puerto Rico instead of Damascus.

Also, the information board in front of the gate should have been a clue. It shows the destination also.

I’m assuming Puerto Rico still has red light districts. Could have been eye opening educational life lesson time.

16 is old enough to realize the weather is way better Puerto Rico and make a “mistake”.

Planes change gates all the time, you have to watch the board. Im guessing the kid is retarded and a parent should have loaded him on the right plane. It’s not hard for normal teenagers to travel by air.

He was at the right gate, just early. The flight that was boarding was to PR; his flight was boarding next.
