The New York Times posted an op-ed in favor of Donald Trump on Monday under the headline, “The Secret of Trump’s Appeal Isn’t Authoritarianism.”
The article is a shocking departure from the newspapers’ progressive cheerleading — and its readers’ preference for anti-Trump news.
The author argued that Trump’s style is conventional, but his statements zigzag along the centrist, middle-of-the-road, this-and-that line favored by non-elite, non-ideological voters:

Which is why I never understood the hysteria unless it is because he does want to do things that actually work.
After all if the country is actually functioning like a very creaky, smoking machine that lurches a bit but keeps going forward things are still working.
And there are people who do not want that. They prefer smoldering wreckage.
Trump’s VP pick is all the more important.
NYT has been reduced to birdcage material for some time now.
I believe it is an issue of authenticity.
Trump may be mercurial. He may be erratic. He may not think before speaking. He may be disrespectful to people who are antagonizing him. He may be flat out wrong on some issues.
But there is one thing that Trump IS:
Authentic.
He is what he is, good and bad. He isn’t a “put up a finger to see which way the wind blows” kind of person, and he isn’t a candidate for “panel tested stances or speeches”.
So, with all his warts, that is why we support him, those of of us who do.
When they let “Trump Be Trump”, you can see just who and what he is. Contrast that with people like nearly every single modern politician we have seen in the Oval Office. People who are smooth. Well spoken. Have tailor fitted suits and hair that looks perfectly coiffed. Wonky on issues, professing to know them from top-to-bottom.
I have seen those people. I abhor them. I’ll take someone who is crass, unattractive in the traditional sense, doesn’t play well with some people, insults people, or calls them names, as long as he does what is right for this country.
And that is why they hate him, they fear him, and want to destroy him. They cannot control him. And they don’t like that. He isn’t part of the “controlled opposition”.
And I say: Good.
“Donald Trump governed like a 1970’s Moderate-Liberal Democrat (think Scoop Jackson with a personality).”
Point well made.
Have mentioned to progressives/Democrats in my circle a number of times that Trump is really the last great Democrat President. And have referenced Scoop Jackson (so was pleased to see your comment making that association). Few progressives get it.
Down fr all 4000 to just the administration?
google can provide a detailed list of Trump admin accomplishments.
reconcile that to every admin selection was poor.
No one defends any of them except they were defended here maybe more than any other site on earth.
Sorry, those are the facts.
Instead of reposting it another 1000 times-
share the relevance?
Did he make these poor selections purposely?
Same guy that runs an multi-billion dollar international conglomerate can’t pick people?
Is the expectation for 2024 the same?
Should we be voting for someone else?
Is there relevance beyond never Trumping?
Yes. Why did the NYT publish such a piece? Pass the popcorn.
Can you translate that to English?
Can you translate that to English?
What does that mean?> google can provide a detailed list of Trump admin accomplishments.
I am talking about conservative accomplishments. Spending levels that made Obama look like a fiscal conservative, and allowing a record number of illegals pouring in the country, until COVID. Oh, and the whole COVID handling. You consider that an achievement. Also, I didn't consider putting Dr. Fauci in charge of the country anything to brag about. reconcile that to every admin selection was poor.
What does that mean? No one defends any of them except they were defended here maybe more than any other site on earth.
Well, why weren't they defended?
You tell me. But it's amazing he achieved a 100% success rate if it wasn't on purpose. Either way, it's hard to call that good leadership, unless you love the Deep State.
Same guy that runs an multi-billion dollar international conglomerate can’t pick people?
LOL. Many of the people he hired were awful. And how many times did he have a bankruptcy? Her had to be bailed out by a sheik in the 90s and George Soros around 2004. The whole business model was based on getting government assistance from Democrat politicians. Oh, and eminent domain. Is the expectation for 2024 the same?
If he gets elected. Should we be voting for someone else?
It's too late. No choice. Is there relevance beyond never Trumping?
I though never trumping was say he is "too conservative." I have never said, or even thought, such a thing. Quite the opposite. I didn't agree with all the prosecutions and impeachments against him. But I only support conservatives, and I don't support Deep Staters. You have choice to support them, I think your making a mistake. You want me to supplicate to the Deep State, I say no.
The first two years 2017, 2018 P. Ryano & Co. were in charge of spending. Remember?
Which POTUS was as successful as Trump? Look at what Trump accomplished:
Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?
#6 - He continued Obama's wars in Afghanistan and Yemen. The tax cut was smaller than Bush's, and it was accompanied by a hockey stick growth in spending over Obama's.
Do you support the fact every single person Trump put in his administration was Deep State/RINO?
Spending is congresses job and your RINO boy, Paul Ryano & Co, had control over that for the first two years of Trump’s Presidency. Looks like Meatballs are not on the menu....
So you are saying the Tea Party movement was a lie, and Obama was an innocent little lamb? and your RINO boy, Paul Ryan
That's a lie. Find one post I ever praised Paul Ryan.
Conservatives used to love Scalia and dislike Anthony Kennedy, until Trump reversed that, and put those libs on the Supreme Court?
Why don't you be a conservative and stop bowing down to the Deep State?
So he purposely sabotaged himself?
95% of all businesses fail, most do not have financial wherewithal to get bailout.
No it’s not that simple being an over leveraged international real estate mogul. The government bailed them all out with 0% rates for 10yrs. LOL the guy operates a real estate empire in NY and NJ but can’t pick people.
So that’s a NO on the similar expectations as obv he won’t be listening Christie and has four years of imbeciles exposing themselves to be avoided.
I never said that you were never Trump, merely pointed out this only relevant to them. Some kind of pretzel logic to end with Trump supporters support deep state.
This after we’ve been through experienced lifetimers make bad choices. Inexperienced, unexpectedly elected are going to fare worse esp when 90% of industry/institution/billionaires are colluding/conspiring against him.
Thanks, maybe add in the future the belief that he sabotaged his own administration to add clarity to the relevance.
