The new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson once attributed the fall of the Roman Empire to homosexuality, resurfaced audio from 2008 has revealed.
Johnson suggests historians might consider the decline of Rome as partially related to a societal loss of morals and widespread homosexual behavior condoned during that period.
In the past, Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has frequently disparaged homosexuality.
But it was during a radio interview he could be heard advocating for the criminalization of gay sex and went so far as to partially blame it for the fall of the Roman Empire.
Some credit to the fall of Rome to not only the deprivation of the society and the loss of morals, but also to the rampant homosexual behavior that was condoned by the society,' Johnson said.
'One of the primary sources of Johnson criticism has been his stance on LGBTQ issues, as he has been a consistent opponent of federal protections for same-sex marriage.
Johnson was once closely associated with Exodus International, a now-defunct group that promoted LGBTQ 'conversion therapy'.
The discredited practice aimed to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through various means, including prayer and counseling.
Exodus International was a highly controversial 'ex-gay' organization that ceased operations in 2013. The group's former president, Alan Chambers, issued an apology for the harm it had caused to the LGBTQ community.
Between 2006 and 2010, while Johnson was an attorney for the conservative legal advocacy group Alliance Defense Fund - an organization labeled as an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of its long-standing opposition to LGBTQ rights.

Agree...Still can’t figure out how 50% of the population can think killing a baby in the womb is okay. Something wrong with that mind set.
Yes it is one of the last gasps of a dying civilization and must be opposed.
So I live in the new America now where if I have a difference of opinion I am an extremist.
They dug and dug and dug until they found something anything but they couldn’t seem to find Hunter hiring underage pmrostitudes
The Roman Empire became a Christian empire before it collapsed. The collapse took hundreds of years. Whatever micro analysis we could do of a decline in morality is not going to reveal as a cause some kind of pagan anything goes homosexuality.
The causes of the empire’s decline and fall are many but certainly it succumbed to foreign invasion. And of course, The Eastern Roman Empire survived an additional 700+ years.
Sure didn’t help but it was more symptomatic like now here

1) Christianity caused the fall of the (western) Roman Empire.
2) The fall of the Roman Empire was a good thing.
I’d say anti-Christian.
He’s not wrong
Oh, and don’t forget endless wars of empire
And a indebted government

One of the biggest reasons Rome declined and fell was because it never solved the “transition to a new emperor problem”. It essentially was a military dictatorship to the bitter end. It tried to maintain the ‘fictious’ notion that it was still in some way a republic. This made the monarchial principle of the state being the personal property of the ruler where it stayed in family with no outside input difficult. They tried but it never worked well. That type of transition was what barbarians do. The self image that Romans are Romans not uncivlized barbarians carried on to the end. The appearance that the emperor became emperor through the approval of the military, the Senate and the people of Rome had to be at least visually maintained. The transition in reality was always something cobbled together. Hence the many civil wars over who had control. These civil wars sapped money, manpower and economic stability out of the ‘system’.

partially. It was not the full cause, but it was a part of it.
And?
Perhaps you want to qualify what you say, seeing as you jumped on me to distinguish between the Republic Republic from the Roman Empire.
During what period did Rome tolerate Jews, even extending Roman citizenship to Jews; and, during what period did Rome throw Jews as well as Christians to the lions?
They didn’t dig up any of Barack Obama’s old quotes in 2007 and 2008. The DailyMail also still protects Obama.
