House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the fall of the Roman Empire on 'homosexual behavior', audio clip reveals

The new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson once attributed the fall of the Roman Empire to homosexuality, resurfaced audio from 2008 has revealed.

Johnson suggests historians might consider the decline of Rome as partially related to a societal loss of morals and widespread homosexual behavior condoned during that period.

In the past, Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has frequently disparaged homosexuality.

But it was during a radio interview he could be heard advocating for the criminalization of gay sex and went so far as to partially blame it for the fall of the Roman Empire.

Some credit to the fall of Rome to not only the deprivation of the society and the loss of morals, but also to the rampant homosexual behavior that was condoned by the society,' Johnson said.

'One of the primary sources of Johnson criticism has been his stance on LGBTQ issues, as he has been a consistent opponent of federal protections for same-sex marriage.

Johnson was once closely associated with Exodus International, a now-defunct group that promoted LGBTQ 'conversion therapy'.

The discredited practice aimed to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through various means, including prayer and counseling.

Exodus International was a highly controversial 'ex-gay' organization that ceased operations in 2013. The group's former president, Alan Chambers, issued an apology for the harm it had caused to the LGBTQ community.

Between 2006 and 2010, while Johnson was an attorney for the conservative legal advocacy group Alliance Defense Fund - an organization labeled as an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of its long-standing opposition to LGBTQ rights.

I’d say the unstainable model of conquest and taxation played a primary role. The Romans took a territory and then taxed it, sending the taxes back to Rome to support an ever-larger military. When they ran out of people who identified as Romans and started paying armies who were not Roman to patrol the captured tax provinces those armies wondered why they were sending the taxes they collected back to Rome when they could keep them themselves. (Just saying it’s a bit more complicated and I’m certain he understands that, so I assume this is a hit piece.) Oh, and the fact that it took months to get a message from one part of the empire to another played a role too. As one provincial governor said of this Spanish Empire, “If death only came from Madrid, we should all live very long lives indeed.”

Some historians have continued blaming the fall on the gays. Roberto De Mattei, an ultraconservative Italian author and professor, trotted out the idea as recently as 2011, saying the invaders were God’s justice visited on the queer empire. “The invasion of the barbarians was seen as punishment for this moral transgression,” he said on a radio show that year. “It is well known effeminate men and homosexuals have no place in the kingdom of God. Homosexuality was not rife among the barbarians, and this shows God’s justice comes throughout history.”

Here we go. They are laying out the bait for the leftist brown shirt shock troops. They will whip them into a delirious frenzy of hate.

We generally consider the period from Augustus to Marcus Aurelius as the Golden Age of Rome. This marked a transition from the Republic to the Empire.

Yes, the slave revolt led by Spartacus was during the Republican period. I don’t think I said it was during the Empire period. I mentioned the slave revolt because of the allusion to homosexuality in the movie. In any case, thanks for the correction.

The Romans considered the Jews and Christians to be atheists and threats to their system because they [the Jews and Christians] rejected the Roman gods and Roman morality. Eventually, the sexual immorality, material excess, slavery, and the subjugation of nations that marked Rome were undermined. But, we could mention yet other forms of corruption such as increasingly draconian taxation, bread and circuses for the urban masses, and the hiring of barbarians to fill the legions.

Having said all this, the decline of Rome occurred over several hundred years. For a long time, the best place in the world remained Rome, with its aqueducts, fountains, architecture, libraries, art, etc.

Even with the fall of Rome, Eastern Rome or Byzantium continued on for a long time, and it [Eastern Rome] was succeeded by Kievan Rus before it fell, and the church survived the fall in both the east and the west.

So, when I said that we may have the opportunity to join in saying “I’m Spartacus,” it was borderline fanciful. Will any of us be put to the sword by the emerging new world order? I would say some of us have already been, and others of us will soon be. We are living in an age of martyrs, and our enemies are manifold.

I agree with him. But why bring that up? Shouldn’t he be working on the budget which is due November 17th? The only job he has?

No, Mike Johnson has it exactly right. Over the years, in reading, studies and conversations about empires that fail, what he says always is established as fact.

He is right, but he brought it up to burnish his credentials for conservatives.

And so it begins. I’m sure the Deep State/Leftist/Globalist/etc. have sent an army of researchers to dig into every aspect of The Speaker’s life, his family, friends, and even acquaintances in order to find any and all things which can be used to weaken or destroy him. Trillions of $ are at stake and they will leave no stone unturned to protect their ability to loot the system.

You revisionists never give up. The three main reasons for the fall of Rome as generally recognized by actual historians were corruption, the division of the empire, and invasion by Germanic tribes as stated above.

A preemptive strike against the Speaker. Now the media will be questioning every Republican on whether or not they agree with his “hate speech” or not. Rinos and media will be calling for him to be replaced.

The Romans considered the Jews and Christians to be atheists and threats to their system because they [the Jews and Christians] rejected the Roman gods and Roman morality.

The Jews enjoyed a unique privilege under Roman law, exempting them from emperor worship, or worship of any pagan gods. This was because the Jews were famous in the ancient world for worshiping their one God, so the Romans permitted it.

Christianity enjoyed no such privilege in the first century, so whether Christianity was a form of Judaism or a new religion in the eyes of Rome was a life or death matter. If a new religion, Christians would be compelled to worship the emperor or face punishment.

This is one reason Ananias's attorney, Tertullus, tries to distance Paul and his "Nazarene sect" from Judaism when speaking to Felix, and why Paul emphasizes his Jewishness. Acts 24.

Unless you're a groomer, but groomers don't use prayer, just "counseling" and drag shows for tots.

If Globohomo takes after the behavior of the Men of Sodom / Men of Gibeah then the Globohomo Empire will probably be destroyed just as those evil cities were.

But wait!

Isn't that what's happening to US today?

God's law and man's law are two different things.

Exactly.

Translations for the non religious:
Making it legal doesn't make it right.
Just because it's legal doesn't mean you should do it.

It’s highly unlikely the Roman Empire declined due to homosexuality or even immorality

Agree.

So, which came first, decline or immorality? You know, chicken or egg?

Is immorality/homosexuality the cause or the symptom?
