The Hezbollah leader took his time to respond to the past month of bloodletting which has turned the Middle East into a tinder box.

And when Hassan Nasrallah spoke, what he did not say was as important as what he said.

There was no declaration of all-out war on Israel. At least, not now. ...Hassan Nasrallah insisted that the 7 October attacks by Hamas were a "100% Palestinian operation", carried out in great secrecy, concealed even from Hamas's allies.

"It has no relation to any regional or international issues," he said, in effect claiming he did not know and neither did Iran.

...The indications are that Hezbollah plans to leave the war in Gaza to Hamas, for now.

Every institution’s prime directive is to perpetuate itself and Hezbollah’s leaders are sleeping on piles of cash since sending money to Hamas is like setting it on fire.

The one exeception is the US Congress whose prime directive is to utterly expend all hope of future wealth and prosperity before it’s septuagenarian or older demigods die.

I bet that Hassan Nasrallah was handed a note by an Israeli sneaky pete that said something like, “Your wife, children, mother & father, brothers & sisters and all your cousins live at these addresses.” At that point Hassan decided to reconsider Hamas’s position on the war in Gaza.

I do not see any real country or even something like Hezbollah going to war with Israel over the palisavages. They’ll cry and bitch and moan a lot, but that’s every bit of it, lip service...
