Without warning, hundreds of noncommissioned officers were ordered via email to report to the recruiting school at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in less than a week, with hundreds more set to start at the school in December -- a sudden unexpected move by the Army as the service scrambles to boost its recruiting force by 800 by the end of the year.
The orders came after a breakdown in how the Army tracks how many recruiters it has coming through the pipeline along with retention of existing ones, according to Lt. Gen. Douglas Stitt, the Army's top personnel officer. The sudden depletion of recruiters caught Army planners flat-footed, with officials unable to provide a clear explanation as to what went wrong. Now, NCOs will likely have to move during the holiday season and in the middle of the school year, sowing chaos for families.
"Given the six-day heads up, we have zero time to plan child care," one noncommissioned officer told Military.com on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. "We can barely find and afford child care during the week as it is, so now my wife may end up having to quit her job entirely because it is impossible to find on the weekend."
The Army has roughly 10,000 recruiters, but that force has been bleeding troops over the past year. The 800 emergency recruiting students will allow the service to maintain its numbers. Recruiters have reported to Military.com in recent months of working longer hours and, in some cases, getting fired for missing quotas.

Yep. Next year is going to hit America like a sledgehammer. People need to pray like never before. I love Trump but they will never let him back into the office. It would take a miracle from God for him to get back in or change the direction of this country.
Everything the WEF has stated, Biden is pushing, along with many state governors. The goal is to reduce the population and force everyone into their prison camps.
1. Once it became culturally and politically safe for draft dodgers to hold the highest public offices in the country, the U.S. government effectively lost all credibility to compel anyone to join military against his will.
2. The same neurotic suburban Karen who spent three years putting a facemask on her children is never going to let anyone put those same children in harm's way.
3. A nation like ours that no longer has a moral compass has more to fear from draft resistors than from any external enemy. Imagine how much damage your ordinary psychotic teenage school shooter could do if he didn't want to get drafted.
I got it. Thanks.
Why do you say that??
I've been saying it for years. See Post #102.
Plus almost automatic promotion to next senior EM grade, E7, E8 or E9.
Every survey the army has is centered on the topic of sexual deviance - so I have been told.
As long as the Army remains “woke” and continues to mandate mRNA death shots why would anybody with any sense want to join up?
Dad couldn’t show up for a few weeks first, with mom and kids to follow?
Well, the school training would be TDY (temporary duty) and family wouldn't be allowed to come along. Once graduated (if graduated), there's no telling where the "recruiter" would be sent to perform duties, nor any pre-determined duration of that recruiting assignment, often not making it worthwhile to pack up and move the whole family ...
But that is kind of what the military sign up for, is it not?
Presumably preferable to being sent to war?
Well, I wouldn't say that it's something that someone joins the military to do. In the past, it was always a volunteer assignment, the same as Drill Sergeant. Plus the norm is to have several months (to up to a year or so) advance notice before a change in assignment or entry to a school. The only time that I hadn't seen that norm observed was when a school had a sudden opening because someone withdrew or was unable to attend and they had to get the slot filled. Even then, they would usually look around for a volunteer to fill that slot before hammering some poor slob at the last minute.
All I can say is that I'm glad that I retired long before the Woke Mafia took over the military ... even a last-minute promotion offer wasn't enough to change my mind toward retirement ...
I thought the reason we provided lifelong benefits to service members was because they were ready to risk life and limb when required.
Is that not so?
Yes, it is and, if the US Army wants to recall my 69-year old self back into active service, I will come back in as required. In fact, I dare them to do so ... because if they recall me for even one day, when they discharge me again, my new retirement pay will be based on the pay chart I was recalled under. And THAT would be a substantial raise.
Not that I really expect them to do so, but, hey, they've screwed everything else up ...
Ha—one can hope!
Just between you and me though, the extended work-week hours resulted from the classes that I was required to attend, with the extra hours needed to just perform my normal duties ...
Maybe you’d fit in with our army of time killers?
There’s a recruiting station in a strip mall near me. Never see anyone going in there.
Its not hard to understand why there are recruiting shortfalls.
“Or were they in cushy do nothing positions riding out their enlistment.”
***********
Recruiting duties may be a cushy job but if you’re riding out your enlistment its probably not where you want to be. I’d rather be in a job that requires transferrable high value skills and knowledge. Something that employers will be willing to pay up for. Leverage what you can while you’re in. JMHO
