Ramaswamy wary of Israeli ground invasion of Gaza, calls for ‘revival of realism’ in foreign policy

GOP presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy said Tuesday he is worried that an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza will trigger a series of events that will pull the U.S. into a larger conflict.

Mr. Ramaswamy said he fears an invasion would increase the chances that the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel from the north.

“Israel is then in a two-front war,” Mr. Ramawamy said in a speech at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington. “There is no reasonable scenario to which, if Israel’s own existence is on the line, the U.S. isn’t going to get involved militarily to protect Israel.”

...

Outlining his broader foreign policy vision, Mr. Ramaswamy called for a “revival of realism” that he said “departs from the consensus of the last 25 years” and “puts the interests of American citizens first.

If Rama were president instead of FDR the US would have sat out WW II after some token punishment to Japan.

Too bad. I liked Ramaswamy until I heard him say this. If you want to be POTUS, sometimes you have to be a SOB. You can’t always just look the other way.

I agree with him on most things but he takes US non interventionism too far.

Vivek is just following Soros ideals. Soros turned on his own people during WWII in Hungary and working with the Nazi’s became very wealthy. So it goes, now, he has Vivek doing his work against Israel.

The Middle East is a place to kill your kids and take the nations resources. Foreign welfare encourages more US interventions and monies.

The only thing that’s been proven over 75 years is the fact that they haven’t been able to kill all the Jews or all the Palestinians. What other solution is there other than some kind of homeland for these millions of Palestinians? Israel has no chance if this cancer continues. The Iranian backed terrorist groups have become too large and too deadly armed.

The Palestinians are not looking for a homeland. Clinton offered Arafat everything they asked for back in 93 or 94 and still Arafat turned it down. What they want is permanent victim status and Israel designated as the permanent aggressor , and all the riches that come with it. That’s why they are so against Arab states normalizing relations with Israel.

Vivek needs to grow up to where his knowledge and wisdom equal his ambitions.

Genuine realism recognizes that certain enemies are implacable and can only be defeated militarily.

Maybe the US can walk off in huff because of its own incompetence in waging war, but the Israelis do not have that luxury.

I wonder if Ramaswamy has ever fired a gun.

It's not like Israel hasn't been involved in a multi-front war before, with multiple Arab nations attacking it, not two Iran-sponsored terrorist groups. Israel will be fine, the US will not get directly involved militarily, and Ramaswamy needs to read a little history.

If Israel goes into Gaza in a big way, it seems likely Hezbollah will attack from the North.

If Israel does not go into Gaza in a big way, Hezbollah will conclude Israel is weak and will attack from the North.

The only credible (conventional) deterrence I can think of is a very credible threat to Iran... :-(

Well, when Gaza was originally turned over to the Palestinians, that was supposed to be a try at that for the locals. Israel even removed the Jews there (sometimes by force.) How well it turned out...

I should have said the Palestinian leadership is not interested in a Palestinian state. The leadership and the people are two different things. The leadership doesn’t care about the people; they would sooner sacrifice the entire population as human shields to meet their needs..

You are absolutely right. What would they do if this ever got settled? Their leadership is like the civil rights leadership in this country. Armani suits, private jets, life of luxury and safety for them and their families in Qatar.
