Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said China could invade Taiwan without major consequences from the U.S. once he has hypothetically attained the nation’s “semiconductor independence” in 2028.
Semiconductor independence: In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Ramaswamy stressed the importance of semiconductors and why the U.S. should take aggressive action until the nation is able to produce its own. Ramaswamy noted that China would hypothetically not take the risk of aggressing towards Taiwan for his term “if we show we’re serious about [semiconductor independence].”

I won’t vote for him.
Vivek= dipshit.
I am with you
This sounds like a very awkward comment.
President Xi and his boys, are listening and interpreting what our people say. I would hate to think anything gets lost in the translation.
He’s a tool. Doesn’t give a rip about Legacy Americans.
The name alone turns me off.
Hasta la vista, Ramaswamy!
Nope, not a chance.
Just like Rhonda Santis, Swarmy will say anything you pay him to say.
They started taking Taiwan when Nixon went to China. The deal was signed via the Repubs and Dems supporting most favored nation trade status with them thanks to Bush/Clinton. The deal is done. America has sacrificed enough blood and treasure.
I'm not happy paying America's gold to bankroll Ukraine, especially with no agreement Ukraine reimburse the American taxpayer...but I don't believe any American president has the right to give away a foreign nation and people to their enemy.
That won’t be easily forgotten.
...But why beholden to either China for anything? Bring ALL manufacturing home.
We had a sodomite Moooooslim, now a Hindu? No thank you, and yes the spelling on that was intentional.
Here is the actually quotation:
“”But the second reason why is that they have unfinished nationalistic business dating back to their civil war in 1949. And if that’s the sole basis for Xi Jinping going after Taiwan after we have semiconductor independence, then you know what? I am not going to send our sons and daughters to die over that conflict. And that’s consistent with my position on Ukraine as well.”
It is perfectly consistent with most of the positions found here at FR on Ukraine.
It is not at all the content of the headline.
I wonder if people are paid — perhaps by the DeSantis campaign— to come on here and make hyperbolic claims about how they hate Ramaswamy.
We're not giving these countries away. They're not ours to give.
Taiwan and Ukraine enjoy the freedom to fight for their own independence.
I am for semiconductor independence. I am also for a free Taiwan. A president needs to be able to multitask. This sounds like a confirmation of the old saying, “To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal”, and lately, the last part is truer than the first part.
Bye Felicia.
“It’s OK with #Obamaswamy if China takes over Taiwan. Because he’s #Ramaswampy.”
I’m not too hot on the idea, but then I never planned to vote for him anyway.
(but it is fun watching him start to pass DeSantis in some of the polling!)
