So diversity appears to be a problem, rather than an advantage, when it comes to "politics, religion or other important areas of life".

The diversity that matters is the diversity of skills to address all facets of the business function.

If you are designing an electric car you need mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, ..., etc, engineers, but it's probably better if their other attributes don't clash. Don't put the Muslim and Hindu Indian engineers together, or with the Chinese.

I just keep my mouth shut and do the job my boss tells me to do. When I have to help a customer they get my best effort regardless of their point of view and I move on. I collect my pay, go home and tell my family I love them.

But if those with different perspectives feel they aren't respected ...

I think I know who they're talking about.

At best, the whole "diversity" push is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of what "diversity" is supposed to be all about.

Organizations know that it is valuable to have employees with different perspectives.

It's one thing to have employees with different perspectives, but I contend that an organization is doomed if it doesn't have employees who share similar core values.

I would frequently make this observation in a corporate setting when working for a company that did a lot of business through government contracts. The first time the HR people trotted out this nonsense about racial, ethnic and cultural "diversity," I asked a simple question: "Is this company well served if it hires and promotes people from cultures where bribery of government officials is not just culturally accepted, but is the normal course of doing business?"

For 20 years I worked at a univ. I would not have got very far, if I didn’t just keep my mouth shut.

I endured THAT form of terrorism.

On a more personal level, It becomes even more difficult when you and your spouse have ‘matured’ in virtually opposite directions. Holding on to the basics to stay tolerant, sans true happiness but rarely, is a daily, even hourly task.

Name it, Trump, Covid vaxx, masks, abortion, zealots of any kind, EV vs ICE, ‘fossil fuels’, White Privilege, ….intimacy.

Okay, now , it just sounds like I’m complaining. Sadly, long Covid renders good scotch to be merely ordinary.

There is only one way to think and you better think that way or at least pretend to think that way. I’m a liberal at work.

Always stay positive and human - never get angry and never give in.

Leftists hate themselves, and their lives. Nothing bothers them more than happy, smart and self-assured people.

Also, they are a small minority of almost any group that isn’t self-selected. The vast majority of people in the middle don’t care and simply much prefer to deal with happy and polite people.

I don’t discuss these things at work:

1. POLITICS

2. RELIGION

3. SPORTS

4. SEX

5. WEATHER......................

Unless your job description directs otherwise, why not simply go to work, abstain from discussing religion and politics, and focus on your job?

Productivity and professional communication are the only things that matter to me at work.

My general attitude is “That which cannot be measured does not matter’.

I don’t care about your theology, sexuality, political alignment, or diet; and I expect the same from everyone and anyone who isn’t family or friends. Keep your mouth shut about who you vote for, who you do -or do not- worship, and where you put your junk.

If doing sales, the point is to find out what the customer needs and offer the best options you have. That is all. If you aren’t going to be professional with everyone, always, stay the f*** out of my orbit.

At work, if it doesn’t fit in a spreadsheet and/or a database, it’s wanking BS. If you want the data to be where you need it and correct, or the electrons to flow, I’m your man; if you need validation for your religious, dietary, or political beliefs while we are on the clock, go **** yourself.

We live in a world where all social aspects of work life have to be eliminated. At work you are a work robot. Nothing more.

In my 60+ years in the employment world I have not seen much change:

Immediated Gratification is the biggest change. Pre-1965 Delayd Graticification dominated. We sand We shall Overcome.
I returned from Vietnam. In 1968 we were chating When do we want it? We want it now!

Birth Control made the difference.

Individuaism v Collectivism is the 2d biggest change. There has always been a mix of Personal Responsibility and collect responsibility of the voluntary group of family, church, social club, etc. And involuntary responsibility of the local government, state government and national government. Individualism has declined. Voluntary responsibilith has declined. Mandatory responsibility has increased.

These two changes in the culture have changed the workplace. But the change is in the cutlure. The workplace reflects the culture.

This all started around 2000.
In the private sector, conservatives quickly learned to shut up or get fired.
Liberals could say anything they wanted.
Now 20 years later, its everywhere.

Imagine another 20 years....
