Members of Kevin McCarthy’s staff have been working the phones on behalf of Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan’s run for speaker, multiple sources confirmed to Semafor.
It’s unclear if McCarthy himself has sanctioned their work. One source familiar with their efforts described the staff as “consulting and providing guidance” to Jordan’s operation, which they distinguished from an endorsement. Jordan’s top competition is Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a longtime McCarthy deputy.
McCarthy said he “might” endorse a successor at his post-ouster press conference on Tuesday night but has not suggested which candidates he’s inclined to favor.
Yipe...but would still be an improvement.
Help that Jordan most definitely does NOT need.
JJ is my first choice.
There's bad blood between Scalise and McCarthy. Makes sense for McCarthy to back Jordan, who was a closer ally.
At least Jordan fights half the time.
McCarthy had a lot of enemies in his party.
I was hoping Senator John Kennedy would be eligible and interested in that role. He has a lot of wisdom.
McCarthy is very upset with Pelosi and the Dems. This, will be his revenge.
Matt Gatez nominated Jordan for Speaker in Jan 2023

Mtt Gatez says he would support Jordan now
Jordan has a 100% ranking from the American Conservative Union for the last 2 years.
Are they trying to sabotage Jordan by supporting him?
I’m surprised McCarthy isn’t making calls for himself.
I don’t think it matters who supports who.
Best not to play this game.
Jordan would be his own man and I think he’d be a huge improvement.
My first thought.
Speaker of the House looks like a dangerous job if you can’t keep even the members of your own party aligned. With having such a small majority in the House,it would seem that much of the job would be pushing issues that you know Democrats won’t agree with or trying to win over some of them into becoming Republicans. Biden keeps coming up with some new garbage resolution about every other day, so the speaker needs to try to keep that stuff from ever becoming law. It looks like a huge unpopular job, but something that really needs done by someone interested in keeping America as united as possible. I wouldn’t apply for the job, & not only just because I can’t.
Most of these guys are fake and what they say when it doesn't matter is baloney. I like Jim Jordan but he also reminds me a tad of Trey Gowdey, he says all the right stuff with the right amount of outrage while questioning people but does he really mean it? Gowdey did not. Food for thought.
But I'd roll the dice with him, if he's legit it would be incredible.
Newt Gingrich doppelgänger?
That was my thought as well
