The number of students who identify as LGBTQI+ at Brown University stands at just under 40% of the total enrollment, the institution’s Brown Daily Herald reports.
Latest data outlines between 2010 and 2023, identification as LGBTQI+ has almost tripled among the student body at the Providence, Rhode Island, university (from 14 percent in 2010 saying they were not heterosexual to 38 percent now).
“The Herald’s Spring 2023 poll found that 38% of students do not identify as straight — over five times the national rate ,” student newspaper reported. “Over the past decade, LGBTQ+ identification has increased across the nation, with especially sharp growth at Brown.”
Other sexual orientations have also increased over the same period at the seventh-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, with some observers countering the rise is driven by social pressures rather than sexual choices and noting bisexual identification outstrips bisexual sexual activity.
“Since Fall 2010, Brown’s LGBTQ+ population has expanded considerably. The gay or lesbian population has increased by 26% and the percentage of students identifying as bisexual has increased by 232%,” the student newspaper reported. “Students identifying as other sexual orientations within the LGBTQ+ community have increased by 793%.”
According to previous reporting by the Herald, “queer studies” are taught in several departments, the LGBTQ Center has moved into a larger renovated space and students flock to gay clubs.
The Washington Examiner reports the 38% identification tracks with research from the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology, which found similar levels among elite colleges.

“These conditions are no joke, the impact is gut wrenching, and for some it is a lifelong sentence of “otherness” the average person cannot comprehend.”
Yes, it can be a tense, and traumatic experience for the gender dysphoria child and their parents. That emotional tension and trauma is one catalysts that invites parents to just give in to the obsession, as if there is no good alternative, inspite of good data that 80% of kids who have an initial gender dyshoria, abandon it before maturity if they are not encouraged to just accept it and “transition”. Every indivdual I have seen or read who “detransitioned” speaks to their discovery that nothin was wrong with their body, just their thinking.
To me the “gender affirming care” a child with gender dysphoria needs is positive, sympathetic, compassionate but persistent MENTAL HEATH CARE to help them kick the obsession they have in their mind, and affirm their bilogical sex.
And since it is Brown University, a lot of the 60% who do not IDENTIFY as being queer are very probably queer. After all, Brown University is the gayest school in the Ivy League.
I am sure you already have asked but what did she say when you asked what the hell is so cool about grooming?
“Drag queens are not trans. Cross dressers are not trans.”
Yes. The political narrative about “trans” has allowed drag queens and others to piggy back their own agendas onto the “trans” movement, when, as you correctly note, they do not carry the exact same mental health issue as a kid with identity/gender dysphoria.
“I am sure you already have asked but what did she say when you asked what the hell is so cool about grooming?”
We’re talking early teens here. There’s not a lot of critical thinking going on.
My physical therapist heard a similar thing from her 14-year-old daughter, who was in a NYC public school. For a while she was going around with shaved head, the works. (And flunking classes.)
When it got to the point where a teacher was passing around a rainbow unicorn and asking the kids to name their sexual preferences, my PT took her daughter out of public school and placed her in a Catholic school. The girl is now thriving and running with a very nice crowd.
I predict a resurgence of parochial schools, especially among the Hispanic. Any parent with a modicum of mental health should get his or her kid out of public school.
I believe those kind of people are called "intersex." (The former word was "hermaphrodite.")
If they included all 666 genders the number would be even higher....
For God’s sake. It’s BROWN!
Of course!
I miss Rush.
My daughter said not that it’s really cool but that they are just seeking attention. I guess it would be considered cool amongst their gay friends.
Just claim you are bi, maximize your opportunities, and join a protected group.
Otherwise, as a straight, white male you are a distinct minority and not in any protected class.
The computer science majors identify as non-binary, but hexadecimal instead.
Can you say, “social contagion”? I knew you could.
No, because the students who are scared or reluctant to identify as gay are outnumbered by the students who think it’s bad form to identify as heterosexual.
In my day the remaining 60% would have beaten the 40% to a pulp.
Just keep adding more letters of the alphabet to LGBTQQIAAP2S+ and pretty soon everyone will be one.
I prefer to use the all-inclusive pronoun She, He, It, and/or Trans, or just use the acronym S.H.I.T.
There are several conditions that can cause gender dysphoria, including Klinefelters, Jacob’s, Kallman’s, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Non-Classic Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, hyperthyroidism, and hyperandrogenism. They are typically defects of the endocrine system.
Not everyone affected by these conditions will develop gender dysphoria. In many cases, if the underlying issue is addressed, the gender dysphoria will cease.
To show you how badly the medical system is messed up now, boys with Klinefelters and GD in the past were given testosterone. For the majority, 80% saw relief. Under the current “affirmation” approach, they would be pushed to transition, instead.
Dr. Kenneth Zucker, one of the world’s leading experts in sexual disorders, got run out of his own clinic (only to be vindicated) by a pack of liars because he pushed back on the insanity.
Unless there is an underlying endocrine defect, for most of these kids it’s mental.
