The move is aimed at putting pressure on Hungary regarding the expansion of the alliance ahead of next month’s summit. The relationship between the United States and Hungary is becoming increasingly combative, napi.hu reports. So much so, that Senator James E. Risch, the ranking Republican member of the Foreign Relations Committee, is stopping the USD 735 million US arms sale to Hungary for not contributing to Sweden’s membership of NATO.
Risch told The Washington Post that “Hungary must allow Sweden into NATO if it wants the arms package, which includes 24 HIMARS rocket launcher batteries, and more than 100 rockets and pods along with associated parts and support.” The decision to curb new arms sales from Budapest shows the growing anger of NATO supporters such as Risch towards Hungary, the paper adds. “The fact that it is now June and still not done, I decided that the sale of new U.S. military equipment to Hungary will be on hold,” said Risch, whose objection prevents the Foreign Ministry from moving forward with the sales process. A spokesman for the US State Department declined to comment, as did a spokesman for the Hungarian government.

I ain’t a Pole.
But you are a Russian, right?
The NATO bombing of Serbia was to prevent genocide.
Slobodan Milosevic had committed genocide in Bosnia and the west had done nothing. They couldn’t stand by a second time.
Read your own Homepage, Stash.
Hungary didn’t give enough US of Gay politicians kids enough million dollar no show jobs.
Please show me in the NATO Charter where members must obey the expansion wishes of the US.
You can't, so your point is invalid.
NATO members are equals in decisions about expansion.
That's not how a globalist empire run by pedophiles and criminals works!
Cheaper to buy on Ukranian black market. Patriot missiles, etc.
What are you talking about?
Hungary can do what it wants, we don’t have to sell them things we don’t want to sell them.
No one can be forced to sell their goods to Hungary.
What do we have against Sweden?
Hungary doesn’t knuckle under to the WEF enough to suit the EU and USA. Won’t be surprised if they pull out of the EU and possibly NATO as well. Hungary’s problem is they still embrace Western values.
So you’re AGAINST Russia’s invasions and annexations in Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova?
Of course I oppose what Russia is doing.
But the entire world knew this was on Putin's mind and instead of trying diplomacy, Biden and the West went straight to agitation and aggression.
Do you support the war mongering of the US and NATO?
Russia started their war against Ukraine in 2014. That’s all on them.
...with Obama's blessing, who sent NO ARMS to help Ukraine at the time.
Nothing actually. I used to frequently work in Sweden.
It would benefit my nation and my people to have them join us in our NATO alliance.
If Hungary had a WNBA anti American Player, I bet arms to Hungary would be fine then..
“Its ‘warmongering’ is basically a meaningless epithet applied by supporters of the invader.”
That’s a favorite word (i.e., “warmonger”) of Russians, and has been for many decades. For instance, during the Soviet days it was a common epithet applied to the West, and it was widely applied in Russian news articles and essays.
Perhaps it is a “tell” against anyone who uses it often here on FR.
“FYI - much of the world sees no difference in Russia expanding its territory to NATO expanding its territory.”
False analogy. Countries voluntarily APPLY to join NATO; however, Russia can only expand its territory by taking part or all of another country.
“Please show me in the NATO Charter where members must obey the expansion wishes of the US. You can’t, so your point is invalid.”
False assumption. You need to take a basic course in logic.
In any event, ansel12’s argument does hold some validity: If Hungary — as a NATO member — expects NATO countries to come to its defense, and commit its sons and daughters to protect Hungary’s sons and daughters, then it would be pretty cheeky of Hungary to oppose strengthening the NATO alliance, and in fact would be against its own interests.
So, the real question is not IF Hungary can prevent Sweden’s joining NATO — it CAN — but WHY it would want to oppose it?
