“Please show me in the NATO Charter where members must obey the expansion wishes of the US. You can’t, so your point is invalid.”
False assumption. You need to take a basic course in logic.
In any event, ansel12’s argument does hold some validity: If Hungary — as a NATO member — expects NATO countries to come to its defense, and commit its sons and daughters to protect Hungary’s sons and daughters, then it would be pretty cheeky of Hungary to oppose strengthening the NATO alliance, and in fact would be against its own interests.
So, the real question is not IF Hungary can prevent Sweden’s joining NATO — it CAN — but WHY it would want to oppose it?
“”the ranking Republican member of the Foreign Relations Committee, is stopping the USD 735 million US arms sale to Hungary for not contributing to Sweden’s membership of NATO.””
America doesn’t have to sell anything that we don’t want to, or to customers that we don’t want to sell it to.
