Former President Obama argued in a new interview that gun ownership shouldn’t be a partisan or ideological issue, amid renewed discussions of gun safety legislation in the wake of several recent mass shootings.
“I think somehow — and there are a lot of historical reasons for this — gun ownership in this country became an ideological and a partisan issue in ways that it shouldn’t be,” Obama said in an interview with “CBS Mornings” co-host Nate Burleson set to air next Tuesday.

He’s such a partisan hack. It anyone w half-a-brain would know about the 2nd Amendment.
I could write down names of hundreds of people that I know have guns and not one has been arrested for a crime involving a gun. 779,123 deer hunters were licensed in Wisconsin. No gun crimes from this group.
Obamasplaining
Astute, you are.....
Pedo Joe is correct in ways he doesn’t mean.
The 2nd Amendment defines the issue and establishes one rule for all.
But thanks to democrats who have worked so very hard to divide us in every possible way gun ownership has been been made into another contentious issue to keep us at each other’s throats while the democrats steal us blind and turn the nation over to the socialist globalist.
Put a sock in it, Ears.
“0bama doesn’t have cannons on his ocean front properties to repel sea rise?”
No cannon = no brass monkeys either...
Well it sure isn’t dementia joe
The issue is that of the left that knows it can never exert the desired control of the union if the citizens have guns.
Guns are necessary to kill those like Obama if they persist in their destruction of the Republic. A well trained militia is necessary to prevent the take over by Obama et al
Yup. The. Chicago way.
Great then he should support the 2nd Amendment without reservation
It is a Constitutional Issue, you dumb Kenyan!
"I think somehow — and there are a lot of historical reasons for this — gun ownership in this country became an ideological issue, and a partisan issue, in ways that it shouldn't be...It has become sort of a proxy for arguments about our culture wars, you know? Urban versus rural. Race is always an element in these issues. Issues of class and education, and so forth.
"Instead of just taking a very practical approach, like we do, let's say, for example, with car safety, where we say, 'All right, we got a bunch of accidents. Let's have seat belts. And let's make cars safer. And let's engineer our roads so that we prevent them'...Instead of thinking about it in a very pragmatic way, we end up really arguing about identity, and emotion, and all kinds of stuff that does not have to do with keeping our children safe."
These are measured, calculated, weaponized words, structured and delivered in a manner to TRIGGER normal Americans and provide talking points for low-information statists.
I'm not saying Obama came up with these words, though he is slick and he is very skilled at dividing Americans. Frankly, I think he's a party girl. He spent most of his 8 years dividing the country with segregationist speech while, legislatively, signing Obamacare. Yes, that was bad. But he could have done a LOT worse, especially when he controlled the Executive AND Legislative branches. But he's just not into that kind of boring stuff: he was more interested in being a star and ingesting his stardom.
At the same time, self-absorbed party girls have a mask and it slips every now and then. Indeed, Obama said one of his biggest frustrations as President was not enacting enough gun control.
If you ask me where has been the one area where I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied, it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common sense gun safety laws.
I don't think these are his handler's words. That clearly bugs him.
As such, the way to respond to these calculated words isn't with a point-counterpoint debate, but to laugh at him.
Obama, you FAILED. You had Pelosi and your pen and you STILL couldn't break through the will of America on self-defense, protection, and firearms. Your SCOTUS pics are useless on drawing other justices away from the Second Amendment, even Roberts. Your eight years in the White House has become a standard for how to fritter and waste power when you got it. Heck, Trump - ya know, the guy you consider beneath you? - got more done in 4 years without a fawning media and a cheering administrative state, than you did in 8.
In a nutshell, you lost on guns because you chose entertainment over substance. Now, you're a rich puppet for people with a better vocabulary and propaganda skills. Americans' strengthened resolve on guns coming out of your Presidency is a shining monument to your core value - self-love.
And that is really funny.
Yes, exactly. “Just everyone be reasonable do what I say.”
0bamaloser says, WHAT?
Screw you. Give up your ‘Security Detail’ and THEN we’ll talk - ‘man’ to ‘man.’
Why do the people that are PROTECTED by guns want the rest of us to give up our personal protection?
What a putz.
“779,123 deer hunters were licensed in Wisconsin. No gun crimes from this group.”
Yep. We either accidentally shoot ourselves, fall out of our tree stand or have a heart attack in the woods versus harming another human being - or a deer, LOL!
Balance in all things! ;)
The lies we have been told over the years...
1962 We ONLY want to register handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1964, We ONLY want to register ALL firearms, not ban them.
1968 We ONLY want to register all guns, and ban the import of foreign Saturday Night Specials, and 5-shot bolt action army surplus rifles! (they got the ban).
1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!
1981, Actress Lee Grant on Good Morning America(ABC) screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”
1984, they made a grab for the rifles, and missed, but played their hand.
1988,Josh Sugarmann, of the National Council to Ban Handguns tells how to ban rifles.
“Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over
fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons
—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine
gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on
these weapons.”
– Josh Sugarmann
Gun owners now know that any time we negotiate with those who want to ban guns, we are up against a stacked deck.
No it shouldn’t be a partisan issue its the constitution. 😉
