A federal judge in Virginia on Wednesday declared unconstitutional a set of federal laws and regulations that prohibit federally licensed firearms dealers from selling handguns to 18- to 20-year olds, finding the measures violated the Second Amendment.
“Because the statutes and regulations in question are not consistent with our Nation’s history and tradition, they, therefore, cannot stand,” U.S. District Judge Robert E. Payne, who sits in Richmond, concluded in a 71-page opinion.
Attorneys on both sides of the case said they expected the Justice Department to appeal the decision and request a stay, which would prevent Payne’s ruling from taking immediate effect while higher courts weigh the case.
Although 18- to 20-year-olds previously could buy handguns in private sales — or have a parent purchase a weapon for them — the decision Wednesday, if left unchallenged, would dismantle a legal framework that for decades has prevented licensed dealers from selling handguns “to teenagers,” said William T. Clark, an attorney with the Giffords Law Center, which filed an amicus brief in the case calling for the laws at issue to be upheld.

Not part of the 2nd amendment.
They can vote, join the military and die for our country but they can’t protect themselves. That’s the lefts thinking.
18 year-olds are still citizens under the law and, barring conviction, cannot be stripped of rights guarantied by the Constitution.
Because there is no constitutional amendment on “the right of the people to buy intoxicants shall not be infringed”.
That needs to go too. 18 year olds are old enough to die for their country, to enter into contracts and most importantly for this topic VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS. But we can’t let them have any other rights, nosirree. /sarc.
Either set the age of majority to 21 and enforce it or leave it at 18 and open it up. What we have now is a sick farce.
Either change the law to reflect what realistic adulthood should be or lower the drinking age to 18. It’s only fair.
Some ‘adults’ never grow up. Baby boomers are a perfect example.
I think it should be 20. 18 year-old killers should not be referred to as ‘teenagers’ as they are in the MSM. An 18 year old serving in the military can receive adult status by virtue of his service. I’d even include married teenagers.

If an 18 year old is not responsible enough to handle a handgun, then they are also not responsible enough to get drafted to serve in the armed forces (yes I know there isn’t currently a draft, but they are still required to register).

Both of them are connected to adulthood, the age of responsibility, and the time when a person enters into being able to fully exercise and enjoy the rights of citizenship.
We currently have conflicting legal standards in this country as to when exactly that age is.

If that were true, then a three year old could stroll (or toddle) into a gun store and walk out with a firearm. Can they? If not, why not?
